i like the core of kessel, jvr, the young dmen like gardiner and reilly, but for the love of god at some point you have to pick up some good defensive defensemen and defensive forwards. guys who win faceoffs, play in their own end, and are not in the -10-20 range every fucking year.
the best teams in the league have players who can get some points, play the pp, pk, and even strength are like +20 or higher.
this has always been non-existent for the leafs. it's fucking ridiculous. like everything a team strives for, they completely neglect. keeping pucks out of your end, a good structured system, and balance in your offense. rolling 3-4 lines. not a 2 line inconsistent run and gun frenzied offense with no d and poor puck possession.
