Chicago gets the lockout cup for the summer. Lets start next season off, and hope somebody fucking new wins it, damnit. Summer transactions are up soon, so this should get started fast.

Why is there still a hockey team in Sunrise, FL? There were probably more B's fans at the game last night than panthers fans. It was like watching a high school hockey game it was so quiet..almost kind of eerie

The panthers organization informed fans that they would be showing the red sox game during the hockey game to try to incentivize people to go the the game

Yeah kronner came out today and said he was mad at himself for being in that awkward position. So yeah, Id say both sides are kind of at fault. Kronner for not being really heads-up, and McLeod for following through with it.

Something I gotta say. As much as the new Stars logo looks lame, the rest of their jerseys look fucking fantastic.

Lappy gets 5 games, pretty much what i predicted (5-6) I think its fair though i'm sure some people will not be happy with it.
As for the Mcleod hit it is pretty similar to the Lappy hit but I think that Kronwall contributed more to the hit then Boyle did as he tried to turn right at the last second and get into the awkward position.
I don't think the hit was as malicious and as far as im aware he has no history so i expect something in the area of 3-4 games. not sure of the extent of the injury to kronwall either, which always seem to play too major a role

I guess it kind of is karma. While I do love it when kronwall lays a nice one on someone, he does have a tendency of leaving his feet a few times too many.

I'm surprised, if only because 5 games is hardly that much further away from the ticky-tack 3 gamers that Banahan was unleashing even in Pre-season. I also don't get why it matters whether Boyle's skate was caught on the kickplate. It was a totally unnecessary hit. It wasn't violent by nature, but hitting somebody in the numbers like that when you have an eternity to make a decision on the matter? That's where I thought it was just gross and suspend-able.

I expected 10 at minimum, simply based on what Shanahan has been offering as of late, and based on the NHL's whole "suspend the result rather than intent" habit. Maybe I'm a bit biased here, but still, when a guy like Kassian gets 8 for a bad, yet likely unintentional high stick, and Lapierre gets only 5? Doesn't seem entirely fair. I mean, Edler got 3 for something I thought was sorta BS and weak. How this hit is only worth 2 more games makes no sense to me.

but granted, 3 or 4 years ago, I would have thought this was a bit of an overstep. So be that as it may, whatever. I'm just glad Boyle is ''Feeling great" after that. Here's hoping he'll be back on the ice

I think he mentioned the kickplate because it Boyle in a bad situation that wasn't Lapierre's fault so when he did hit him it made it much worse then the hit would've been as if he hadn't lost his balance.
But i agree completely with the inconsistency of the NHL, its terrible, guys have no idea what the repercussions will be now for a hit they could get anything from 1-5 games for seemingly the same hit. I think Lappy got less then what a lot of people thought because it wasn't a direct target to the head/neck area but right in the numbers.
Edler hit Hertl in the head which is the main thing they are trying to get out of the game and Kassian smashed Gagner's jaw with his stick. Both plays directly targeted the head which I think Shanahan views very differently.
Also, you do sit hits from behind quite often in games, its just that most often the outcome of those hits have no negative consequences except maybe a 2 min penalty. It wasn't so much an illegal hit, as it was a bad hit, on a bad spot on the ice, on a vulnerable player. A different perspective to Shanahan then an illegal hit to the head.

I noticed the Fuck LA post right at the beginning of this thread. I'm going to disagree with that as they're my favorite team, but totally agree that Chicago needs to fail and fail hard this season.

Mike Smith scores with 0.1 seconds left, honestly that is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen.

Stops the puck, puts it to his stick and a perfect shot, i doubt most players could do that under pressure at game speed

So Colorado took on Pittsburgh tonight leading to a shutout victory for for Giguere. Penguins post about 30 shots on the veteran and Giguere stops them all, not to mention a spectacular 2-1 glove save on Malkin. Suck it Crosby


Also the Wings took on San Jose leading to an Antti Niemi shutout through out the whole game. Jimmy Howard lost in the shootout.

All in favor of Howard bringing back the classic Osgood mask, say I.
