Chicago gets the lockout cup for the summer. Lets start next season off, and hope somebody fucking new wins it, damnit. Summer transactions are up soon, so this should get started fast.

What's the over/under on Maxim Lapierre's impending ban?

Yeah that was disgusting.

I can't find any more news on how many games Lapierre's gone for but some places are saying Kaleta got 10 games for his hit to the head on Johnson so Lapierre should get at least that. Hopefully Boyle heals up quickly.

I'm pretty sure they'll still take it into account. Especially considering both instances were fucked up and against the Sharks. (look up his shove on Scott Nichol. Seriously. Could have broken his neck if the dude wasn't so heads up on the play).

Lapierre is a piece of shit and is a mediocre defender. All he's good for is diving, cheapshotting and antagonizing with the occasional lucky goal/point. appropriate for a 3rd liner? sure, but there's no place in the game for some of the bullshit he's pulled.

I dunno if its just me, but I don't think Lappy will get anywhere near 10 games. He's no longer a repeat offender and I don't think the hit was as bad as some other stuff.
Obviously he shouldn't make that play but at the same time Boyle puts himself in that position, he could easily have played the puck while bracing for the contact that he knows is coming. There also wasn't a penalty called right away on the play and the ref didn't make the call until he realized the impact of the hit.

In no way am i defending Lapierre but Boyle can't be putting himself in that position, though it can be difficult in the corner where the angles get messed up.

I think 5-6 games is far but knowing Shanahan, I don't have a fucking clue

Actually I do know why (because Backie is hurt/ not having great year and we have to be careful with Harding), but jeez we need to not suck on the scoreboard, especially when we clearly dominated in shots

Considering how Shanahan is handing out 3 game sentences like candy, there's no way it's that few games. There was an injury on the play - a bad one, Lapierre absolutely NEEDS to let up in that situation, he hit him squarely in the numbers while in the corner - that's absolute trash - doesn't matter what Boyle is doing in this circumstance, everything has to do with Lapierre's decision of whether or not to let up.

It was an unnecessary hit that didn't need to be made. While I am usually one to think "yeah, well... it's fucking hockey, so this shit happens" I still have to look at it from the current view of the NHL.

3 or so years ago, it would have been maybe a 3-5 game suspension. A decade ago, I would have seen this and thought "yeah that's hockey. fuck!" and left it at that.

But now? Drop the book on this jackass. I've always hated Lapierre.

Really not sure it'll take that long.

But that said, there are differences. Colorado legitimately has a strong forward group and one of the best pure scorers in the league in Duchene. Go through the highlights of the goals he's scored so far this year, he's basically Kane with less nifty dangles but skates better and shoots harder.

That's the thing though... They have been scoring, but their defense hasn't exactly been able to stop the other teams from straight peppering Varlamov. Granted the dude's been standing on his head and is saving 97% of everything, but eventually things are going to get by him. Teams are going to figure them out.

They are gonna score all season, it all comes down to their defense and goalie and if they can keep this up. I haven't watched any of their games but im guessing Roy actually has his players backchecking and playing defense.
But the bubble will pop and they will come back to earth but they will still make the playoffs considering they play in an easy division apart from Chicago and St. Louis and should place behind them in 3rd most likely or compete for the wildcard

Funny thing is that Osgood interviewed Roy today seeing as how covers the Red Wings on TV. Haven't seen it yet but its gotta be epic.

The Avs defense has looked MUCH better this year. They have given up a lot of shots in some games (they aren't the best shots in the world so that stat is a little miss leading) but in other games they have given up under 30, which is fine in my book. The defenders are back checking a lot better this year and are really given the forwards a lot more opportunities to get the puck down into the other zone. I think this team is for real though. Getting Downey back and adding Sarich to the defense has done wonders for this team. Sarich even has one of the best +/-'s in the league. Talk about a rebound.
