"Finally! I can't watch the videos any more and have chosen the winners. To make up for the delay in choosing the winners, Ripzone, Eira and Powder Room have added more prizes, so the top 40 videos will all get prizes.
The prizes packages are from GoPro, Anon, Ripzone, Eira and Powder Room.

His rotoscoping transitions were pretty sweet(most of the time) but other than that I thought it was a POS. Surely there was better ones? majority of NS edits are better.

some of those effects were neat, but twixtor ruined my opinion of that video altogether lol

I haven't really been following this contest... did everyone download stock footage, edit it, and then they pick a winner? What are the expectations of the winner? Are they supposed to film and edit all the COC sessions? Did contestants have to submit their own filming skills at all? If COC is picking someone to film/edit their camp just based on some stock footage they edited I feel like that could lead to some quality issues... unless the only responsibility of the winner is to edit footage filmed by someone else.

the same thing happened last, the winner was chosen based on editing and his clips that he shot at camp were barely used. im nervous that this is going to happen again, not to mention the fact that ken downscaled by eliminating many of the filmers.

Two ways. The first way is easier but it is going to produce a static image that is split. The second one is a little harder but it will have the video clip still playing as it is split.

easy way that is less cool:

pull a frame (basically... take a screen shot) where you want it to transition. Bring it into photoshop and split it wherever you want to split it. Depends on your software.. if you are using premiere you can dynamic link the photoshop file to premiere. Otherwise you can save them as pictures. Bring them into your editing software.. place them on the timeline where the video left off (where you took your screen shot). Put another clip on a video track below that. Keyframe the two pictures going in opposite directions which will reveal the clip beneath.

harder way that is more cool:

Take the video clip you want to transition and bring it into After Effects. To make the bottom half that will drop away you want to mask off the top half of the clip so it is hiding. To make the top half that will zoom up mask off the bottom half so it is hiding. That will be two different video clips. Stack them. Place another video track underneath both of those tracks so when they move out of the way the video beneath is revealed.

i don't really like this contest all that much either.  for me, a good video starts with filming.  thats what makes things unique and lets the videographer put his on twist on things. then the editing is determined by the style of the filming. thats my opinion anyway.  its so mundane seeing all of these edits with the same shots all just re-arranged and put to different music. there is no real great separation half the time cuz you're still seeing the same thing over and over and over again. at least in the winning vid he used some after effects and made shots and transitions appear like they were shot for the edit. all the other ones ive seen get old after about the 2nd one because they are all the same visual images with a different song.  thats why the comps like the JOSS team videos were so cool and even the ones at Mt Hood now, cuz they are different video teams putting together the whole video from start to finish, not using the same boring stock shots and god awful hand logo title sequence. done ranting now
