Canyons Mountain Biking

Just wondering what the trails are like up at the Canyons. This is my first year mountain biking, so I'm a total beater. I have a full suspension bike (GT idrive 2.0 I think?) which I'm told is decent for someone starting out, but it's far from a beefy downhill bike. As of now, I'm just doing more cross country style trails where you bike up and then ride down. Love the downhill parts which is why I really want to get into mostly downhill. At the same time, I don't want to spend a few grand on a downhill bike if I'd be sticking to trails my current bike could handle. So as far as some of the trails at the Canyons goes, will I be okay with my current full suspension bike? Like I said before, total beater so any insight would be great.

Canyons downhill stuff is pretty serious and high consequence

Hit up PCMR. Crescent is open. Super fast and easy laps with more cross country stuff and some downhill stuff here and there.

Canyons is hardly serious DH, there are some good size jumps but other than that nothing is too serious. A full DH rig up there is overkill.

You most likely want to go full suspension but it could be done without.

The only place in PC you really need a full on DH bike is a couple trails at Deer Valley. Canyons bike park isn't steep and is all about flow. My DH bike was complete overkill there, swapped it out this year for a more freeride oriented bike. Not sure how much travel you're working with but odds are it can handle everything up there besides some of the big features on Rally Cat. If you're just learning then stick with what you have to build your skills, then get something more beefy.

DV and I think Canyons too both dump their rental fleet at the end of the season at a pretty nice price point, so that's something to think about/keep an eye on.

I've seen kids at the bike park with hard tails slaying rally cat... but if its your first/second year a full suspension set up (6 front 6 back) is exactly what you should go for...

Speaking of that pinkbike.com has a better selection of full rigs and no waddling thru ksl.com...
