Also, I'd go with the non-vc version either way. VC/IS/VR/whatever doesn't matter worth a shit even at 50mm on a crop body.
once you get up and over around the 100mm range, you can get weird with VC or IS or VR or whatever, but anything below that? You shouldn't have a single issue with it whatsoever, and definitely not with video.
Especially if you're shooting skiing - where you'll probably be stopping down a lot and using filters to darken the scene - rather than worrying about stupid shit like IS which only matters for long lenses and being able to shoot a subject at 1/10th of a second rather than 1/15th in a dark hallway.
