Help Me Give an Awesome Wedding Gift

I already asked this in the ski building thread, but it didn't get much attention and it is now on an old page.

So here's the deal, my older brother is getting married this fall, and I am making him and his fiancee skis as a wedding gift. But the thing is, my brother, an industrial designer, usually creates my graphics for me. I really want this to be a surprise, so I am turning to NS for help.

What I Need:

-2 unique ski graphics- I think matching graphics would be a little tacky, although it would be cool if they incorporated similar themes

-Illustrator- the graphics must be made to specific requirements for the printing company which can be found here: http://millerstudio.net/?page_id=58. I know my brother uses the software "Illustrator", but if you have other software that can fulfill the requirements, I suppose that could work as well.

If you can help me out, either respond to this thread or PM. We can discuss ideas and graphic dimension specifications.

Why should you help me?

Cause it's going to be a sick original gift, and you'd be really helping me out. I'd really appreciate if this were to be done out of the kindness of your heart (I am a poor college student, currently working a full time unpaid internship, and I already have the costs of the raw materials for the skis to begin with). If you think you deserve a little something for doing this, still pm me and maybe we could work something out. Plus it could be fun!

Your brother makes some sweet graphics. Too bad you ruined the sweet looking skis with sweet looking graphics by putting not so sweet Squire's on them though.

Idea: Tell your brother that you want him to create a graphic for a client of yours and that they want two pairs of skis that have matching themes. Then, surprise him when he gets skis that he designed himself. I bet he and his fiance would be super stoked on that if you could pull it off without him catching on.

Did not want to break the bank on bindings if they skis were going to delam or explode on the first run. Fortunately both the skis and the bindings have held up so far.

As for more about them, they live in Boston. So I was thinking something with the skyline would be cool, or showing the subway somewhere on them because they first met on the T. They also love their dog, Turner. He's an australian cattle dog and a total boss. ACD's have very charismatic faces and really cool coloring so I was thinking something with Turner would make a sick graphic.

Of course I can go in to more detail when I have stronger interest from someone.

Oh and as for having him make the graphic himself, good idea but he'd definitely catch on. I don't really have any clients, it's more of a hobby, making them for family and friends. Because I want the graphics to be personalized in some way, he'd definitely notice.

10/10 for all again. Really amps me up that people like the idea. Great motivation. I am away from home until mid july but the skis should be finished by mid august and I will certainly post pics of the final products.

You could make the design be based off of story of how they met and the memories they've shared throughout their time together. It's probably really cheesy, but it would be really thoughtful in my opinion. Just a thought lol.

I have an Australian Shepperd. herding dogs are super photogenic. You could easily use that. Get a nice picture of the dog having fun, and spread it across two skis so they match up into one graphic when lined up on a wall kind of like the 4frn MSP from a few years ago. They looked sick on their own, but when you put them all on display it made a great landscape style picture. You could do two different pictures of the dog too. Put the head/body on the topsheet, and the butt on the bottom of the ski haha (assuming they have a sense of humor).

@chubz- I was definitely thinking along those lines. I want it to have meaning or personify their relationship, but still come together as a sensible graphic. If I stranger were to see them I want them to be like "that shit is dope" rather than "what the fuck is that random collection of nonsense. but you are right, what is most important is what it means to them.

@thelorax- I wanted the split graphic among a single pair but having the two pairs come together to form a mega picture across 4 skis would be even sicker! especially if they could stand along looking sick like the skis in your example picture

and bump i still need a person to help me out with this!

I would happily spend a couple of days drawing something for you but I'm not sure how to scan it in and make sure that it fulfils your requirements.

If you're going with the Boston skyline, which I think is a sick idea, something which always looks great is the simplicity of a two-tone fade, i.e. going up from the buildings, orange sky, to the top of the sky in light then darker blue.

If i were in any way skilled, I'd probhably ask a shitton of questions before i actually got started.. so take half an hour to tell the story and see what people come up with, with pictures and all.

I would make something similar to the travelling circus graphic on the van.. but im too stupid for it.. soo

or something similar to the wolf theme shown but with their faces, and somehow linking up when next to each other.

he is a designer on the men's team at Sperry Topsider. so if you are wearing sperry's right now, there is a good chance he helped design them or rendered their colorway
