What gun to get

I have about 400 in my gun fund, what would you reccomend?


I was leaning towards a shotty, but open to pretty much anything,...It will mainly just be for target shooting but maybe hunting too.

Those are about the worst parameters ever. What type of target shooting do you want to do? What facilities do you have available to you? Target? Clays? What type of hunting interests you? Turkeys, small game, deer, what? Also, most importantly, what other guns do you already own?

If you own no other guns, a decent little .22 is a most excellent first firearm. The ammunition is cheap and you can develop good shooting habits. Put down a bit on the gun and then use whatever other money you can find to put the best glass you can afford on top of it.

Not trying to get a .22 really...I'm trying to get the "bigest bang" for my buck......targets arent necessarily a deal maker,considering I could shoot at whatever I can find/want

If I did do any huting it would be small game, ducks ect. ...which makes me lean towards a shitty, but Im still very indecisive

Well if you want to still be able to find ammo for a decent price, a shotgun would be the way to go. 9mm, 40s&w, 45ACP, 22LR, 223 and many other different kinds of ammo are next to impossible to find. At least out here in Reno NV.

$400 dollars will get you next to nothing. I'd save another $200 at least.

false.

get an SKS. that's in your price range. can get them for about 200 bucks or less. albeit they're not the best rifle ever made, they're cheap as hell, decently reliable, ammo costs 15 cents a pop, and it's a little piece of history.

Just sold my Yugo SKS for $400, maybe where you are you can get a norinco for sub $300, but I havent seen one that cheap since last year.

On a related note I loved my SKS. They shoot extremely well for the price, are easy to clean/break down, dont jam often, and are an all around great first rifle. You wont be disappointed.

i'd totally buy a 22 and put a collapsible stock and pistol grips on it. you can shoot the fuck out of it all day without it breaking the bank. in case you haven't tried to buy ammo lately, it's not the easiest thing to come by...and when you can actually find it, it's fucking outrageously expensive compared to where it was 5 years ago. besides, a 22 is a fun fucking gun to shoot...and you won't go deaf and broke doing it.

I'm in Canada. ammo is much cheaper here right now.

when you're spending $35 (that's how much I was told it costs in US) on a brick of .22, we're spending $20-25.


my buddy just bought an SKS for $150 or something. one of the made in China type 56's. not the best craftsmanship. but it's still a legit SKS from the 50's.

and he got 500 rounds for $80 bucks when he bought it. so 15-16 cents/round.

SKS or a mosin nagant. both are great guns that you can find for really cjeap at a pwan shop or something like that.

Anywhooo....I haven't bought ammo in a good 5 years, but where I am right now in cali, they sell bulk ammo at gun shows (from what I understand its pretty cheap?) ...I could be completely wrong though, sure .22s are fun but id rather get something a bit "bigger"

Save your money and wait for a gun show. I got a brand new Remington vtr .308 for 400$ brand new. There are a lot of rip offs but if you know what you guns at all you can awesome deals

Go to a gun show. You'll get a better selection and you wont have to worry about not being 21.

.22's are always fun for target practice.. 500 rounds for 20 beans, hard to beat...

Or the shotgun route I highly recommend the stoeger pump, it is the consumer company for Benelli, great buy..

Bumping this thread with an update! ended up saving a bit more and went with an sks, couldnt be happier, rounds are reasonable and its super fun to shoot

exactly, buy a gun you can find rounds for. you mentioned a shotgun. Thats what i would do if I were you. shells are everywhere and its still fun to shoot

nice gun brah. looks fun what size ammo does it use. my buddy had a 30-30 rifle i think it was a m1, it was super fun to shoot and not too pricy. i just sold my bushmaster ar15 for 800 bucks. :( there will be time for more guns later in life

just make sure you clean your gun well after firing those rounds! they're probably corrosive ammo from the 60's or something. looks sweet.
