Colorado is huge. Honestly, the front range sucks. From Trinidad to FoCo, it sucks. Well, Trinidad has some awesome hiking in the Spanish peaks. Alta and snowbird have lots of snow, but so do the san juans. Alta has some good terrain, but there CO backcountry has some amazing backcountry. Go into the weminuche. Most of that terrain hasn't been skied yet (its pretty dangerous back there, but its the price you pay).
Denver and Boulder are decent cities at best. It's nice to have those things so close to the mountains, but don't pretend that it's an attractive city. Denver has lots of good cannabis, hash, and beer, but that's the extent of Denver's cultural contribution. There are much more interesting 'ski-cities' out there. Denver and boulder are mediocre cities with some decent skiing a short drive away (if you are like me and are willing to drive three hours a day for skiing).

It all lies in your opinion. I'd much rather be in a bigger city than in the middle of nowhere. I love Denver and think it has a ton of awesome stuff to do. I also think it's an extremely attractive city. It all lies in the eye of the beholder, so weigh out what you want before you move.
