Why do we separate all types of skiing? Why do park skiers hate ski racers? or Freeskiers hate Freestylers? Or vise versa. I understand they are completely different, but at the end of the day we're all skiers right?
Why would you generalize this? I don't hate any of them. What I don't enjoy is having to witness tight pants on the hill, gapers in the park, and park rats destroying my bc booter.
All these things you listed have potential to cause hate but if you just acquire some general knowledge of what other skiers are doing, and treat them with respect, everyone is happy.
Because it's hard to hang out and ski with people- let alone understand- why someone would spend 80%+ of their day hiking the same flat rail at the bottom of the mountain when there's a whole hill to explore and play on.
I mean, that makes sense to me anyways. It's just that different people are there for different reasons. No hate, just different.
I have literally never been a dick to a racer just randomly. They always seem to be the instigators.
Also, Racer's are generally, ambitious, athletic, competitive, have sore balls from wearing such tight clothes all the time. Park rats are generally, chill, pot smoking, underachievers.
because people have different opinions on what having fun skiing is. i don't think it is hate, i mean i have never hated someone for liking a different type of skiing i just think maybe some people think that the way they choose to ski is the better way.
One time a bunch of prepubescent ski racers on the chair started singing Epic Rap Battles of History. Another time, a ski racer started screaming in the lift line and threw snow at his friend while the rest of his group laughed their asses off. On the other hand, I've met and know some super chill ski racers that are awesome people. My point being, some people are going to be annoying dicks, some aren't. And if I want to hate on annoying as fuck ski racers, and be friends with nice ski racers, I don't see a problem.
personally i've never seen a racer hate on freeskiers but i have seen freeskier hate on racers.
maybe it's because some freeskiers don't like the idea that being on snow needs to be regimented the way ski racing is. maybe it's how much money is in the ski racing world compared to the pennies that are available in the freeskiing world (jon olsson excluded). or maybe it's because the general public looks at freeskiers in the same way people used to look at snowboarders in in mid 1990s.
who knows, and at the end of the day, who really cares? there are assholes that are racers and there are assholes that are freeskiers. if you just go out and enjoy yourself, you'll realize that it doesn't matter as long as you're having a good time.
Park skiing is like one big exclusive family. You don't let random people into you house (racers going into the park).
......but really at my school, racing and park are to very different things and cultures. Racing is more of a 'jock' thing and most play lacrosse in the spring. They usually bring the jock mentality into skiing and yell shit off the chair lift.
I dislike racing because it revolves around rules. I don't know about the rest of you, but that's pretty lame to me.
Additionally, many racers at my home mountain are just little pissants who think they own the place. You don't need to wear skin-tight suits and adhere to a book full of rules to go fast and shred on the mountain. Take it elsewhere as far as I'm concerned.
I have had nothing but bad experiences with racers. They act like the own the park and pipe. The pipe is the most annoying because while you're waiting for one racer skiing straight through the pipi to get out, another comes. You end up waiting for five minutes for people who don't belong in an area to get out so you can use the pipe for indented purposes.
People tend to hate things they don't understand. If you are a park skier then you probably don't understand why ski racers do the things they do and act the way the act. The same can be said for any differing types of activities. Its much easier to say someone else is dumb, stupid and you hate what they do than to try and understand and accept.
i didn't read anything but the OP so this might have been addressed already. But anyways:
You have things confused, it's not skiers hating skiers, it's teenagers hating everything that they don't personally do or like. simple as that. ADULT skiers don't hate on each other for skiing differently.
im sorry but whats the difference between freeskiers and freestylers? Generally most park riders at my mountain dislike racers because the stereotype is that they are rich kids that act like douchebags and think they own the mountain. This doesnt mean that theyre douchebags off the mountain, as i have a few friends that are racers that i hang out with. On the mountain however, i like to give the racers a hard time just because its my duty as a park skier
your a fucking retard. long boarders dont skate street and vice versa, they simply dont give 2 fucks about the other sport, just like i dont care about freestyle or racing
That's because most racer parents are complete assholes. They pass on their disrespect and lack of understanding onto their spoiled and cocky children.
But don't worry, we will have plenty of those types of kids in our sport soon enough.
