Camping Off-Campsite???

So me and my friends want to go camping and it's cool by our parents BUT because we're under age I don't think we could "rent" a campsite at a campground.
I don't live in Wyoming next to miles of wilderness-- I live in Milwaukee. There's always the possibility of driving far up north, BUT, do you guys know if it's legal to just camp wherever? If it's on public land I mean. In the woods? What about on the beach? Does the law vary by state?

Another thing is we have a ton of friends who want to make a huge tent city in a field, I know public park fields, would this be illegal?

all someone is gonna do if they catch you is tell you to pack it up. chances are you will be fine.

don't just camp anywhere unless it's legal in that city or state. look up the laws for the places you want to go and figure it out from there. I just went camping last week and we thought it was legal to camp where we were and we were far enough from the road and trail but apparently the spot we were in was private property. now I need to go to court and probably pay a fat fine for trespassing and camping in a watershed. save yourself a run in the police and check your local laws.

I read yesterday that if you're on Bureau of Land Management land, you're fine.

check the laws but if theres a big forest or nat park you can usually camp 100ft off any trails

also why would you not be able to get camp site if you're underage?

indeed superior, or any lake up in the northwoods for that matter. As long as your on public land your good, go later in the summer to miss the skeeters tho

First of all, just get your parents to reserve the site for you if they're "OK with you camping".

In the National Forest you can camp anywhere as long as it's 1/4 mile from a road and/or water source. BLM land you can camp basically anywhere you want but I doubt there's any BLM land anywhere near Milwaukee. State and local parks you need resercations. Wilderness areas, you need backpacking gear and often a permit (usually free) to camp.

thats why i said "controlled" at the end. i mean some kind of state agency has to be at least responsible for it.

Here in the ADKs it's 150 feet from a road and water source.

Just check your states laws and go from there.
