I was just watching they see me trollin and watching black Steve with his profi- hoeing and I noticed that this pro woman skier was landing stuff pretty sketch I'm not sexist towards women its just something I noticed.

There is definitely less competition in girls skiing and the skill level isn't as high so in that aspect yes, but most companies have a smaller budget for women's skiing as they know that more people watch mens leaving them with less opportunities... so my answer is not really.

The problem with women's skiing is the old generation. They aren't producing any memorable edits except Kaja nor is their skiing even close to entertaining. Still, they remain in powerful postions. This has to be altered.

That article on downdays is ridicoulous. The interviewed skier is only sponsored because she knows people from the industry since years.

The next generation, beginning with Lisa should be the main focus of the industry to shut down this discussion.

No doubt though that they need more support than the guys, which is totally fine given their smaller scene. Women in skiing are more in need of a professional environment during younger years than guys since there's less competition. Lisa f.e. went through Ice Dancing practice, that's where she learned her movements. Support the young girls with a professional environment were they can push each other and be mentored by some coaches and you'll have some pretty good girls throwing down some clean tricks.

I think girls just need to ride with dudes, not with other ladies. I just remember Sarah would just rip the shit out of everybody else because she would just ride with dudes. She had something to prove, and I think that mentality is gone.

These days any girl that is in the park that rides is loved because it is so rare, but back in the day it was way more of a boys club. Ladies had to proved they belonged in the park.

I don't think this post is stupid. I think it's pretty true. A lot of the time when I see girls skiing in the park now, it's with a bunch of other girls who aren't throwing down at all. The secret to getting really good at skiing (and anything else in life) is pretty simple - surround yourself with people who are better than you and you'll get better.

No hate on Lisa but everything she did so far apparently did not help her to pick up potent sponsorship.

Other girls about her age despite skiing less spectacular seem to market themselves a lot more professionally than her for whatever reason. And frequently compete at higher level events around the globe with greater success (f.i. Tiril, Katie) while Lisa states school is in her way of training and competing harder and more frequent. To each his/her own but that doesn't sound like a perspective sponsors are going after.

Saga's post is prime. It's a business and a lot of that is overall image.
Personally I ski because I grew up with it and I love it. I also have other stuff going on like school and honestly I'm not trying to go pro, just have a good time. It isn't every girls (or guys) goal to go pro, so i don't know why everyone is assuming that's the case. All the examples on here are girls who are invited to the x-games and in movies but there are a ton of girls that kill it like my girls Alexis and Katrina (both have been in some Trevor episodes) and another friend Julia Marino who can stomp 9s and got 2nd in the FIS world cup in Spain this year. All are sponsored but not in movies or whatever, and they have an awesome time up on the hill regardless.
Then I see all these aerial videos. That has been around as a competition level sport for much longer than slopestyle so of course there are more girls in it than slope. Although it has still only been in the olympics since 1992 (yes i took the time to look it up), slope and skiing pipe was JUST added. I certainly wasn't alive at the start of freestyle skiing but I can damn sure tell you it wasn't an option in winter sports club when I was in elementary school (and I'm only 19). This sport has grown tremendously for both girls and guys, but if you're talking ratios, of course there aren't as many high skilled and high sponsored girls in comparison. It sounds like most of you are in tune with the "I'd rather be an unsponsored guy than a sponsored girl"....so why are you all still bitching about it? Be stoked for your female friends instead of shutting them down. Maybe that would help with this "incentive."

I have a few, but they aren't trying to get sponsored or continue to be sponsored which is what this thread is about, the fact that women's competitive skiing sucks donkey balls. You as a female skier should be ashamed that 9's win runs.

agree with this. however, im just stoked when i see chicks out on the hill throwing down/trying to throw down. fuck getting sponsored just have fun, and if your lucky enough maybe youll end up with one of the girls out there that loves skiing as much as we all do.

The thread is about being sponsored, not competitions. yes they are linked but not synonymous (look at film skiers, and people who slay it in backcountry) My other point is there is more to skiing than comps.
I would love girls to get better in competitions, I'm not arguing that. I'd love to see more progression but there is a lot of politics about jump sizes etc.. I'm not trying to get into. What would help is guys not being jerks about it. Nearly every time I've tried to make an edit or do anything sponsor wise not too many friends are willing to step up and even give advice. Having people constantly say how bullshit girls skiing is, especially when it's from friends, does not inspire many girls to get into it.

fair enough. And i'm not really frustrated with the aspiring female freeskiers, i'm much more frustrated with the veterans who have kept the sport stale. Im not at all saying every sponsored woman skier needs to be able to double, or anything close to that. I just want to see a smaller gap in what's being done overall. I want to see an edit and be able to say "They shred", not "She shreds for a girl". And i think thats what most people want to see too.

Yea see I would agree with that. I don't really follow what the girl pros have been landing but I would agree that not enough..risks? have been taken at upping the playing field. but like I said, I'm not really following the competitions closely enough to know.

This is strictly my opinion, you dont need to agree with me
Women skiing is stuck in a vicious cycle


1- Very few women skiers
2- Very few who go to contests
3- Low cash money, Very few girls category, Not many prizes, other girls to compete against
4- No sponsors because no one to expose, or exposed
5- Very few women skiers

Very few girls ride, or at least take it seriously, therefor theres no progress in skiing.
No company really exist to support womens skiing, just a few girl crews that enjoy riding together.
Therefor the contests dont get filled up, theres no cash prizes, no motivation for them to go even.
And since theres no way for them to get noticed, theres no sponsors.

If you are a women skier and you want to make it into skiing, you have to travel everywhere you can to get recognized.
Its easy to win competitions, but theres very few comps with a legit prize.

A company sponsors someone depending on how much they can bring back. If they dont have a lot of sales in the womens department they wont sponsor girls. Because they think theres no money to make.

That was rhetorical actually.

It really doesn't matter how long its been around for.... people only last from their teens till their late twenties in either sport (for the most part). Girls have had the opportunity to pick up a pair of twin tips and rip with the boys in the park since the beginning of freeskiing, and there's still a wider gap than aerials which is generally way gnarlier than a lot of park skiing.

My point is that aerials as a competitive sport has been around longer and has had programs set up for girls and guys to start doing it at younger age. By the time they are in their late twenties like Lydia Lassila they can slay.

Having slopestyle and pipe training starting in elementary school is pretty new thing so not many girls have started young enough to get that committed to competing. Honestly its also not that popular of a choice. Having the opportunity to do something doesn't mean someone automatically just picks up and does it. Everyone has a lot of opportunities to be involved in something especially when they're younger, and they don't just choose skiing because it's there. So yea, now there is a pretty big gap but it'll start to get smaller as time goes on.

to add: shit is about to get real. slope is an OLYMPIC sport now. this gender gap is going to close in a fucking hurry over the next 12 years. Of all the sports I can think of that have a nearly competitive man/woman gap it's gymnastics. Which is what slope is since the spawn of doubles, and don't fucking say it's not. Slope will be so heavily focused on by the russian, chinese, eastern european nations that those girls will kill it so hard you can't even imagine. This is not basketball, where a guy like me off the streets could dominate in the WNBA (in my dreams I suppose), this is fuck your shit up dub 14 and lip 450 down some gnarly ass rail.

It's cool to talk shit about girls sucking at skiing newschoolers. It won't be so cool when a chinese girl born in 2009 is better than you in every single measurable way when you're 35. go look as the girls jumping on olympic trampolines while you cry yourself to sleep. O-L-Y-M-P-I-C-S.

And where did I say that? And how does that matter? I said that girls have been able to pick up a pair of twins as long as guys have... that's pretty obviously a choice, by both the girls and guys.

Everyone who chooses skiing is doing it because they LIKE it, guys and girls... it's the same choice across the board. Those that compete do it because they like it or want to get better. There's no place for that to be an excuse for the massive skill gap.

what you need to realize there is that the vast majority of arialists couldn't ski a black diamond run if they're life depended on it. no disrespect to them because what they do requires a ton of talent but the majority of that talent comes from a gymnastics background and not from skiing.

currenty the Canadian Freestyle Team is recruiting acrobats that they can turn into arial skiers.

If it is about being sponsored, then what positive things can women bring to freeskiing? Call me a bigot, but I skip womens segments in movies, except for ingrid. Couldnt tell you who won any womens comp in years. Michelle parker talking over half the damn movie in superheroes of stoke just about ruined it for me. I would rather see Hoji and Pettits B-roll than her sub par lines put in there and having her talk over the whole thing just about made me turn it off. I feel like she is in there due to sponsorship dollars, and just because she is a chick.

Also, can anyone find John Symms commentary on the 2008 US open for women? Funniest shit ever!

A friend of mine was at the Salt Lake Olympics and the competitors there actually had to ski down a moderate blue run to get to the top of the aerials hill. He said he was laughing his ass off watching aerialists eating shit all over the place. They couldn't not even stand up on anything that wasn't completely groomed.

I hate these posts... So much false information, wrong ideas.

1) men can see better than females while in motion. Women see color better.

2) men's brains typically produce less MOA-B which causes them to become addicted to the sensation of skiing. The less you have the more likely you are to want to ski every day. Females have the most and there for are the least likely to be adrenaline junkies.

3) women's tendons are less able to handle strong impacts and take longer to heal when injury occurs.

4) there are significantly fewer female skiers.

5) women have a different center of gravity than men.


- men are actually able to perform more powerful tumbling moves then women in gymnastics

- women in gymnastics have typically be working hard at it since the age of 2 and don't have the same bodies as the typical female skier today. They are compact and extremely muscular. Years of training keeps their bodies from fully developing.

- as women are trained in freestyle skiing, the gap will begin to close. In the mean time, men who enter freestyle skiing are a lot more "built" for it that women. There are women that definitely are crazy strong, have lower levels of moa, have been doing things to train and see better at high speed and are less feminine... but most of these women aren't skiing. They are track stars and soccer players and whatever else.

Time will close the gap, not telling us that we suck.
