69th Anniversary of D-Day

Today marks the 69th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings in 1944 that were the first steps in defeating the Nazi war machine, and taking back France.

It's sad that there aren't too many veterans from the war left, but having visited the area and being a French citizen, it's safe to say they will never be forgotten.

So take a second and contemplate how absolutely insane the plan for the landings was, and that it somehow worked.

I did a project for school last year where I interviewed someone who landed on Normandy. It was such a great story.

You could say it was successful, but it was more a matter of how many people they could put on the beach. If you get enough people, eventually you'll win. It coulda gone better, but the men who ran off those landing boats have the biggest balls this planet's ever seen.

I was at Normandy for the 60th anniversary, (though I was only 8 and don't remember to much)Planning on going back for the 70th with my dad, such a momentous event in history truly, I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet those that were there.

I visited Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Juno Beach and the American cemetery behind Omaha last summer and its absolutely amazing. Its incredable to see the cliffs the Rangers scaled at the Pointe and the lunar like shell craters scattered everywhere. I'll admit I got choked up at the cemetery, once you start reading the names everything comes into perspective.

my grandpa drove a landing craft at juno beach, and hes still kickin it today at the ripe old age of 92!

he got interviewed by the CBC for a program they were doing today, and luckily my cousin works for the CBC so I got the full 1.5 hour uncut interview (that my cousin actually conducted herself), which will be something I will definitely be happy to have later in life when he's gone. makes me proud

Apparently, he either has a small dick or is a small dick. Irrelevant either way.

Much respect to all those who served and those who continue to serve. Couldn't even imagine what it would have been like to be on a Higgins Boat when the gate dropped, or having to run up those beaches.

are those the ones from that Times photographer? The one who was too jumpy and excited to see his photos that he ruined like 90% of them in development.

Americans had balls at one point. Not that we don't have them now but they were much bigger and of higher quality then. The original plan was to invade and undefended beach in calm weather. But the Nazis saw through the false reports we had fed them and the weather was awful. Despite everything going wrong the Americans still made it up the beach. MERICA.
