I hope this isn't a repost, but I found these maps quite interesting. I never would've guessed that some of these terms and words would be said any differently than how I say them.

Also water fountains/drinking fountains do not bubble, calling them "bubblers" is complete and total idiocy.

You're confusing "Soda Pop" with just Soda. I would say you need to leave "Pop" in the 30's. Pop is what my mom calls her dad, not what I call my ginger ale

I actually called it pop until I was about 17 or so, then started randomly calling it soda instead. Now if I'm at someone's house and they ask what I'd like to drink I definitely say "do you have any soda" not..."do you have any pop." Or maybe I'm just assuming I do because I would never actually ask if someone had soda unless I had previously eliminated beer, champagne, wine, hard alcohol, robitussin, and rubber cement.

I was going to say only the dumb states call it pop, but apparently Texas and the South just call all sodas "cokes" so they win the stupid award.

Bubbler is one that I really only break out if I want to sound excessively Boston. Nothing is more boston than saying "drink from the bubblah"


And good GOD! there are drive through liquor stores?! (or again, if you want to lay on the boston thick, a drive through packie?!)

I was surprised when the area of Pennsylvania mostly had that. I call it SEAR up and i thought a lot more people than that did too.

I'm from jersey, and I usually refer to a circle as "Wow another fucking circle" cause they're really, really stupid. Maybe it worked when there was like 100 cars on the road, but not anymore. At least not the ones I've been in.

My family moved around quite a bit, but Virginia and West Virginia, it was called a crawdad. Still call it a crawdad now.

This is one of my favorite things about the U.S. Fuck linguistic uniformity!

The south doesn't refer to all soda as Coke. They just drink Coke instead of Pepsi because that is where Coke is from...and Pepsi is an inferior product. It's not like anyone order's a "Coke" when they want a Sprite or something.

I'm a camp counselor and most of the guests are from Massachusetts where they call water fountains bubblers.

So this one day some kid asked to go to the bubbler in the middle of camp. The other counselor I was working with's jaw dropped and was confused. Luckily, I'm part mass hole having spent a lot of time at my grandparents in Woostah so I knew what the kid was talking about but it was hilarious.

I can see how it's misleading in that way. But it's not like you would go to a restaurant and order a "coke" and the server would ask "what kind of coke do you want?" People just order what brand of soda they want...Coke, Sprite, Fanta, etc.

I think they meant what the generic term when describing the entire genre is, and not one specific type.

Yeah, I know. I guess I've never really heard anyone ask for just a soda in the south, so the map makes sense I suppose. They just ask for whichever kind the prefer. It's just misleading in that it makes it sound as though the southern term for soda is "coke" which, as far as I've experienced, isn't true.

You've got it totally backwards. It was called Soda-Pop...and people called it pop. Pop literally sounds like the 1950's. Like, hey guys let's go to the sock hop and check out the juke box and order pops! Pops sounds like a child's candy. I literally hate pop, adults should be embarrassed to say it.

There are many places where traffic circles/roundabouts don't really exist. I grew up in Wilmington, DE/Philadelphia and literally the only one I can think of is the one that goes around city hall at the top of Broad. I'm sure there's others, and maybe more have gone in since I moved, but seriously, they aren't nearly as prominent as they are here in CO and other places I've been.

I'm from Seattle and I call them roundabouts when they are in a more major intersection, used to control traffic-- typically with yield signs. I call them traffic circles when referring to the tiny ones in neighborhoods around seattle that aren't really there for traffic, they're there to slow you down and eliminate left turning issues.

Yup. There are a few of them by my cottage. It's like a car wash, but instead of soap, water, and weird mechanical brushes, there are a shitload of fridges filled with beer.
