Hey everyone!

First off I'd like to thank all of you who took the time to congratulate me on my new position as GM of Newschoolers. I couldn't be more excited to work with the team, and more importantly, the community, to help bring NS to a whole new level. If you missed the release, you can check it out here.


Over the course of the next few weeks I'm going to be asking the community to tell me what you guys want to get out of Newschoolers. What's working. What's not. What features you want in the future. What contests were your favorite to view and/or participate in. What content you want to see, where you want to see it, and how you want it delivered. Do you have a batshit crazy idea that you want us to pull-off? Let's hear it. I think you get the point. I'm going to try and find a way to reward those who contribute feedback, but in principle, the reward is a better Newschoolers for everyone.

We're also going to be amping up our Social Media game with the goal of curating the best NS has to offer. This will be an ongoing process, so I urge you to follow us and join the conversation. In terms of contests I loved viewing the GoPro contests where people posted super hilarious and clever pictures about how they would use a gopro.

I promise you, its not because the news isn't there its because it isn't good all the time. The good stuff gets upvoted, and we have had a less than stellar flow of the good stuff over the season.

Some of the guys have dramatically changed that lately, but when there is no good news, there is no news at all.

Good stuff in here. Lots of this stuff is in our ToDo list, and NS is going to get a massive blast of development over the summer.

It would be awesome if we could upload pictures directly into threads, then have it show up in 'My Media'. Usually when I'm uploading pictures it's for a specific thread.

In multipage threads, I don't usually need to see the op again, and if it's a really long post, it's super annoying to scroll through. Maybe on the second page and so on it's hidden, then you could click 'show op' or something if you need to see it again.

Also a link from 'Quicklinks directly to your specific regional, so I could click 'Regional' or maybe the name of the regional, 'New England' and have it take me there. No need to see the entire list of regionals every time.

Expanding on the issue of news not being visible, and I read what Bishop wrote above about a lack of good news, I think that in the top right corner of the front page, there should be a block dedicated to news and the display cycles through the top rated news articles.

I'm willing to hear suggestions, but TBH this problem could be completely solved by three simple things:

1) More people add news from around the internet

2) More people write news

3) More people upvote good news

Seriously, the reason there are so many forums, photos and videos is because people regularly check top rated/latest photos, videos and forums. If you like news, just drop by the top rated news section once a day and upvote anything that is good.

Problem instantly solved. Trust me - we can force the news to the top and we'll end up in the same place - boring news at the top and about 1% of the views on the site going there.

We've been down this road. We must solve the root issue, not simply the face value issue.

The problem is, people aren't gonna submit news when a thread gets them more publicity/approval almost every single time, sort that, and it's fixed. The question is how?

Ha 15! I remember when this site had forums about skiing in ski gabber forums. now it seems to be a bunch of kids calling each other fags. More skier man is always good

Not to be that dick kid, but update NSTV, I get real sad every time I see shows that no longer actively post videos (pretty much just chug life) so add some new shows to the tab and maybe ask what the community wants to see on that tab? Idk, chug makes me alittle sad knowing he has moved beyond the sport

Being a tech and working at resorts I would post when and what jobs my shop and others in the region are going for. Just get the info out for people who want to work in the industry in UT or OR. Also it would be awesome to connect with the other people on NS that are working in the same position. It would be a solid addition even if it is seldom used.

The same problem exists in the Video section, where people post a video in the forums to get extra views.

Its probably a pretty simple issue of a few tweaks mixed with some incentives to assist in the system. Jason and I are working on plans to better organize both content creators and the community to help partake in the system in a more organized fashion.

I made a thread concerning a notification feature and all Mr. Bishop did was criticize and say that it wasn't possible. I hope the new manegment will think otherwise.

Notifications for messages, quoted replies, and replies in your threads. Like if you on mobile have it send you a notification to your homescreen like a beep or something, or send a notification email like Facebook does. Sometimes I go a day without messaging someone back cause I haven't checked NS in a while.

It's been said before but POLLS. There are so many good ideas for this, like the thread on most common injury right now. I'm not sure how well a user created poll system would work but I do want to see more polls.

This is also a small thing that i personally think would benefit the news section and that would be to bring back that animated news window from before the most recent big overhaul. You know the one that would scroll through 10 articles that got selected by you guys to go onto the mainpage. I think it would do a couple things:

1) make the main page even more spicy and interesting
2) encourage newsmakers to reach that mainpage
3) get more exposure for written media as opposed to the massive flood of edits and pictures that currently dominates the NS media ....
4) acquire underpants
5)???

I don't know if this is that important since nobody has mentioned it yet, but I really feel like the message system should be updated. Something more instant and not as difficult to go back and check them. I know this would help a lot with B/S/T and for people who just want to chat.

A couple ideas for NS, hopefully all of them haven't been said yet:

-A regionalized homepage. So when you submit any type of content, you have to cite a region from a drop down list and then another drop down list with the mountain that the content is coming from. Then on the homepage there could be an option to sort by region/resort. This would be beneficial for two reasons. First, it would make it easier to see all of the content coming out of your home mountain/region. Second if you want to try and find out the park setup for a certain mountain, just select that mountain and you can see the latest edits from that park.

-Favoriting videos in the video section. Currently, when I see an edit I really enjoy, I download it and put it in a file on my harddrive. This has started to take up a considerable amount of space, and can be a chore to organize.

-Notifications. Personal notifications if someone quotes your post, comments on your media, posts in your thread etc...Also you should be able to 'watch' threads to replace the My Threads section. This would get rid of the worthless 'threads' post that shows up every other post in some bigger threads. The you could also choose to get notifications when someone posts in one of your 'watched' threads.

-Following Users. You could sort the homepage to 'followed' users so you can narrow the content to users that you've had a positive past experience with.

Post date/time! Everything is in EST, it always throws me off having every post read 2 hours ahead of what time it is here. It would be great if post times were automatically adjusted as per time zone.

I dont know why this idea was so quick to be shut down the first time I mentioned it in site discussion but I think a searchbar in each cult would be extremely helpful for the multipage cults and avoiding reposts there.

I would really like a Freeskiing/NS wiki, with a major part being a complete and comprehensive trick guide. Its pretty hard to find a good, complete guide to every trick out there. It could also have stuff about the pros and ams and shit. Please do this man!
