I don't wear goggles and don't consider myself a gaper. Why do you have to wear goggles? I feel it restricts my vision.

I have seen someone rocking a Football helmet while skiing.

Adding to the list

-helmets covered all over with resort stickers (often times the same ones and peeling off)
-short, back mounted rental skis with super long rental poles, or no poles looking like a duck
-camo hunting jacket and blue jeans
-bike helmets
-football helmets
-work gloves
-gopros
-cheap 10 year old bolle/smith/scott/haber/etc. gogs

for some reason the whole no-poles steeze has hit my mountain like a rampaging truck driving duck, I'll see anywhere from 30-40 middle aged men who can ski below average rocking no poles with fat gaps, it makes me sad :(

Woah, people hating no-poles skiers? At my resort it's pretty much only the gapers who use the poles. Grabs are way easier to learn and you can do them way steezier and better without poles! Homework for every poleless skier hater: try skiing without poles for one tails and see for yourself how much better it feels ;)

a few things ive noticed about people who ski in jeans.

A) - its either their first time skiing, orrrr.....

Helmet with that sort of pointy end, implying that the user rides fast enough for aerodynamics to be an issue. This is usually combined with way too narrow goggles with see-through red glass. Extra points for confused yelps and shouts in various brittish accents every time someone passes within 20 feet of them.
Beast mode: going up the lip off the mini jump, running out of speed halfway, climbing the remaining bit and falling down on the other side, knocking your face bloody on the knuckle.

WOW, how fucking full of yourself do you have to be to notice something like that??? Since when does skiing mean you have got to hold your skis a certain way? Too many fucking scenesters in this sport who care waaay too much how they look and what other people think. /rant

I mentioned the skis backward too. Its simple mechanics... it works better tips first, and beginners tend to have not picked up on it

I have no intent to moralize certain styles or preferences, some things are just done better a particular way

i never saw the advantage in this.
im either tips up or tips down depending on whatever fuckin way i happen to grab my skis off the rack.
exspecially with nearly centre mounts, it really doesnt make a difference.
the only advantage of tips down is if your skis are mounted back from centre you have a little bit more room to work with, and that toe pieces feel better resting on your shoulder than heal pieces, exspecially fks.

as long as the ski on bottom has its breaks closest to your shoulder so top ski doesnt slide off, youre doing it right in my eyes.

well I agree for center mount park skis w/o fks bindings....but thats only a fraction of skis out there, especially if were talking about gapers. (rentals are far from center mounted)

most gapers ive seen cant even figure out how to get the skis apart, let alone over their shoulders for carrying purposes.

tips down is the way to go, i just dont think tips up makes you a gaper.
if youre carrying your skis over your shoulder youre still a bad motherfucker regardless.

I call their stance the "flying gingerbread man" mostly because they are hauling ass down the hill, wide stance, arms up. Open coat, helmet with no gog's is the icing on the cake with it.

I think...it depends on which brake is over the top of the other, if that makes sense. Can't think of it now without my skis actually over my shoulder, but if one set of brakes is "over" the other, then either tips or tails makes the most sense, because the brakes on the "under" ski keep the top ski from sliding out. Perhaps it's just me.

I feel like there are a lot of things that none gapers do, even some pros do, that can be considered gaper-ish. Like unzipped jacket, no goggles, and we all get the occasional gaper gap, some much more often than others. Personally, I think the real gapers should be more defined by how they act.
