Just picked up Rokinon 14mm Aspherical... For FREE!
I was looking for a wide angle lens and I went into B&H. They were doing this promotion for people who are going to NYFA, and it was like $200 off the lens. I also had a $350 Gift card from my 13th bday so I picked it up. Do you guys like the lens?
I've seen pretty sharp images from it. The distortion does give it a bit of a fish eye look though. For $350 it's not the worst deal if you really need a wide angle.
However, I'd return it and either save for a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, or wait for the Samyang / Rokinon 16mm f/2.
I mean, everyone knows.. the wider the lens, and the more prime a lens is (because some lens are far more prime than others) the faster it should be.
Companies really skimp on fisheyes too. I mean look at that front element. They should be like F0.01337 or something really fast like that, OBVIOUSLY. So much light goes into that it's like a damn black hole.
It isn't soft at all. I owned the lens and it was pretty darn sharp. There is some barrel distortion though. Not that it matters unless you're shooting architecture.
No not at all, i've seen great images come from them, they just aren't comparable to Zeiss and Mamiya lenses on Thomas' 420 or so roles of Neopan currently in his fridge.
I use Zeiss and had mamiya before, they are better but my rokinon 35 is nothing to scoff at.. it's an amazing lens, the build quality is sub par especially comparing it to zeiss but the results are great.
