6 Months Rule

In Utah, there is a law that says that you cannot drive with friends within 6 months of having your licences.

Is this law in all other states? Specifiacally wondering about NY

One passenger unless immediate family for first six months if G2 between midnight and 5 (could be six) , then second six months is 3 passengers unless immediate family in between midnight and 5

I should remember this. I got my learners permit when I turned 16, took driver's ed, got my junior permit 6 months after my permit, turned 17, and got a full license. I think the restrictions were 1 passenger and as many family members as you want, I think. There are restrictions on hours, but I'm not entirely sure when that was (I think you can drive between 5AM and 10PM, something like that).

got my permit today! in ma its 6 months driving with parents, then 6 when you cant drive anyone but family. i have heard a few stories of kids getting caught for it but i dont think its enforced much

In South Dakota, you can drive at 14, first 6 months with a parent. Or 3 months if you take drivers Ed. Then you are free to go!

As someone who's had a drivers license for over a dozen years now, 6 months (or even 1 year) is not long enough to really learn how to drive properly and make good decisions.

I know all the 16 year old's think they're Michael Andretti as soon as you have a license, but you're not ready to be driving while being distracted by a bunch of immature friends. Hell, you have enough distractions with ipods and phones. I didn't even have those when I first got my license.

It's the same as people arguing for a lower drinking age. Once you're old enough, you see that teenagers aren't mature to handle stuff like that.

Same with Rhode Island, however you can't get pulled over for it so you can only get caught if you are pulled over for a different offense like speeding. Even then, it's small punishment

where i live, alberta canada, you can start driving with a parent at 14 and drive with a parent and with as many passengers as seat belts at 16.

That sucks! The first thing I did when I got my license was pick up my friends and cruise. Never got pulled over for it though.

Yeah exactly.. I mean when I wa 16 I was like I'm fuck rulez but now that I've driven for a couple years looking back holy fuck 16 year olds shouldn't be driving car's by themselves much less with all their friends to distract them.
