Replying to Busted This Weekend
Friday was my 18th birthday. Being a slightly more important birthday than most, my friends and I decided to get a hotel room at the local Motel 6. Unbeknownst to us was that three other groups of kids, two from our school and one from a neighboring city, had booked rooms as well. And oh, what joy, all of us were next to each other on one floor.
At first glance this might seem like an ideal scenario, a great way to ring in my new period of life as an adult. It was perfect, too perfect it seems. My girlfriend and her friend came, along with about 10 of my friends. At around 11 oclock most of my friends left to go get some pizza, leaving me and my girlfriend, and her friend and her boyfriend.
Nobody had been drinking yet in my room because it was a little too shaddy, considering there were 3 other rooms and I had a feeling it could get busted. As you can tell from the title of this thread, my feeling was correct.
At 11:30, or sometime around there, a loud pounding came at my door. I looked through the people and found my friends had returned dressed as police officers. On a second glance I noticed that in fact, they were REAL police officers and not my friends. I opened the door and was told that 'we were getting kicked out.'
Knowing that there were two bottles of liquor under the far bed, my mind was racing. I quickly offered to give a breath test to show that I had not been drinking. The officer ignored me and came in the room, after which he proceeded to tear the room apart. He threw the covers off the beds, opened all the drawers, even opened the top of the toilet where the water fills. He started to walk by the bed, when he stopped and bent down to look under, where he found the booze we had stashed.
My and the other people in our room sat and waited for other officers to bring breathilizers for us. Fortunately our room was the only one without people who were drinking, and the breath-tests proved just that. I was told I could go because I was 18. Everybody who was under 18 had to be picked up by their parents. What worries me is that since I paid for the room, it was my responsiblity, so that even though I could say somebody else brought the alcohol, it's still my fault. My one friend, whos dad is a police officer, said that technically the search and eviction was illegal because there was no just cause. The four of us were clearly sober and there was no alcohol in sight. But I suppose I will just have to wait and see.
I guess I just wanted to see if any of you guys have some similar stories to tell, or if you have any legal advice should I face some charges.
