It all depends on what you want to do with it. Each piece of
software is geared towards different things, they fill different niches. You can’t
just ask what type of software should I use without answering a few questions
-what type of computer do you have? Do you have a mac or pc? That dictates what
programs are even available to you. As well as what are the harware specs of
your computer? If it’s a good computer then you can use a better, more resource
intensive, program. A program like after effects is very resource intensive (I
have pretty much no experience with macs, but I’m sure final cut is probably
resource intensive too) where as Vegas, movie maker, or imovie are not
- how much experience do you have with editing software? if you don’t have any experience
at all you probably don't want to start learning a really complex program like
after effects first. you would probably want to start with something a little
simpler, maybe Sony Vegas
- how much time are you planning on devoting to this hobby? If you don’t have a
lot of time, again you probably don't want a really complex hard to use
program. your most likely going to want something a little more user friendly
that you can learn faster such as Sony Vegas or premiere
- how much money do you plan to devote to this hobby? Software is expensive.
what can you afford (or... how much time do you have to try to pirate it)
pirating software isn't always easy and can be very time consuming plus if you
pirate the software you can never use the software for anything that may
possibly make you money (copyright laws etc).
- What do you plan to do with it? software that is better for ski edits may be
inferior to other software in different fields. Find one that meets your needs.
my $.02 if money and time don’t matter go for an adobe master collection. It gives
you a good balance of software that you can use for most applications. Photoshop
is good to have. After effects is awesome. and premiere is alright ( I learned
with Vegas so I’m a bit biased as I hardly use premiere). Plus there are a lot
of other things that come with it that if you have them you will eventually use
them
hopefully this helps
