Finding decently priced Skis

So I am recently new to skiing, I used to snowboard,for about 4 years, and I never really liked it that much so I started to ski. I've gone up a few times and have rented and have picked it up very fast.
I have been looking for skis in the $200-$300 range and since it is the end of the season it isn't too hard, just I want to make sure I buy the right kind of ski. I know that as I progress in skiing I will be doing some park but more all mountain skiing.
I have found many skis for this and some friends have pointed skis out. A friend recommended the Armada El Rey skis, I did some research and found them for $250 at a local shop but they seem to advanced and too much park oriented for me. I also have been looking at the Dynastar Serial, the Liberty Morphics and the K2 Stingers, also a few others.
Also with skis I was wondering what length to get. I am about 6 foot 180 and I know that since I am a beginner I will need a slightly shorter ski. Also if someone has bindings that they would recommend that would be nice.

Is that price with or without bindings?

You may be able to pick some of the last season's skis at that price. However, you've probably got better luck looking at skis from previous season's, for this your best bet is http://www.untracked.com/.

dont think that there is a reason not to get a good binding except din range since your big enough. I promise you will be able to use a good pair of bindings for a long time, so dont skimp on them because they can save you knees and life, no matter how good you are.

as far as the good ski choice, look for a ski with rocker because this will be more versatile and will be easier to control. it will also allow you to have a proper length ski, but allowing you to use progression to get to the point of being able to use the extra length(i.e. running edge length) considering this, I would recommend the Rossignol Storm. Its a rockered ski that can handle a bit of pow, a bit of park, and it shred like all rossi skis. you can find great deals on them, and i even helped a friend of mine out by showing him them and he picked up a pair and loves them. he is in a very similar situation as you so I think im leading you in the right direction,


sorry i couldnt find the 180 length, but you can always just go to shops and get a pair that way

Thank you very much! I'll check those out. But yeah I'm not saying I'm going to get cheap bindings, in just saying I'm not trying to get a packaged deal for $200-300, I was thinking skis in that range. With bindings though I'm looking in the $100-150 range if you have a suggestion. But thank you again!

Look at the k2 recoils. I think they have them for like $220 brand new at evo right now. As far as bindings, marker griffons are a pretty solid all around binding to check out

Salomon bindings are good if they have "driver" in the product name, Rossignol Axial/jib bindings are great. I love mine. I would recommend those over all the others just because they are great for racing/moguls, so they will be good for all mountain. they are very durable and very responsive. you can also find a cheap pair. I also haven't seen a single ski shop that didnt carry them. they are also marketed by different brands, which means different color schemes. other than that it is the same binding. it is the one with the long straight heelpiece that has a plastic shell. if it is a heavy, metal heel with a swivel, then those are not htem. If, however you do find a pair of these metal heeled bindings at a good price, get them that instant. if you dont, someone else will. these metal heel, swivel bindings are called the Rossignol FKS/Look Pivot bindings and they are most sought after bindings on the market. the are also the most expensive.

Thanks guys. So is the 2013 rossignol storm ski the same ad the 2012, or is there a difference? Also what length should I go with? 180's or a little shorter because I am a beginner?

K2 recoils with salomon sth12 drivers should be a pretty solid setup for what you want to do and for your price point. Try to go between 174 and 181 on length.

I would recommend a ski around 100 underfoot like the line blend, Rossi s3, atomic theory, k2 shreditor 102 or if you want to go a little wider the line sir Francis bacon. 100 is a good with, you can ski it all over the mountain including the park. All these skis are pretty soft and that's good for a beginner-intermediate but they will still allow you to progress and become and be advanced-expert skier

same skis and yes dont go anywhere under lets say 177 if there is no rocker. if there is rocker, just go up to your eyes/bridge of your nose. as far as width goes from another comment i saw, you might like a wider ski, but i think you will do better off with a semi wide park ski for a first ski. then when you really start getting into skiing, you can have ur park skis (the storms) and the pow skis, which are the wider ones. Personally i would say 100+ is too wide, but thats just me. I ski moguls and my mogul skis are 72mm which is pretty damn skinny and i love them that way. just go to a shop and check out the underfoot width of some skis. you will find them very big, and they will be harder to roll edge to edge and harder to maneuver plus much more expensive. you will not find a pow ski that is good for under 300, and if you do, your gona have to give me a link or shop name with contact info haha. But seriously, I would say a beginner skier using a 100 waist ski to keep learning is a poor choice. its just going to make everything more difficult to learn.
