Fult tilt flex comparison?

So I am buying new boots and thinking of buying full tilts. I was wondering how the full tilt tonge flex of 6 compares to a flex rating of 85 o spks? +k for help

According to a Full Tilt flex comparison thread made three years, a 6 flex is equivalent to an 100/110 flex boot. However it is also said that this would feel a little softer, due to the overall flex pattern of the boot. No chance a six tounge is 100-110. A ten is generally accepted to be around 100-110. So a six will be more like a 80-90. However the flex is weird in a full tilt so can't easily be compared, for park riders they are generally fine as they tend to be quite soft. Bigger guys I have worked with have needed the shells bolting though to stiffen the boots even with the ten tounges

Its hard to compare full tilt flex to other boots because its a progressive flex. The flex gets stiffer the harder it's flexed

thanks to all of you for your help and +k. i got a pm from bgoldstein saying that according to backcountry.com a full tilt flex of 6 i equal to flex 100 on other boots

It's not that stiff, if it was then a 10 tounge would be around 130-140 which it defiantly is not as I said before it more like 80-90. But go try some on and compare them to other boots

I always thought FTs were considerably softer too, but in the thread (https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/529969/ ) its claimed that a 10 is around 130/140. Not disputing your claims, as I know you're a fitter, just interested as onenerdy claimed that flex, and I thought he used to work for FT.

No he works for atomic. It will be interesting to see if be responds here but from my experience they are generally pretty soft. I tried the twall ones this season which I think are the 6 and they were much softer then the current spk at 100. My old boss also used the seths and he used to be in Lange 130's and we had to double bolt both cuffs even with the 10 tounge just for him to ride them

I thought he worked with FT before Atomic, might have misread it in a thread I read a while back.

Anyways I've only ever tried on a pair of FTs once, they were a #6 flex, and they did feel softer than an 100 flex. But I put it down to the fact it was indoors, since they're a made from PU right?

Yeah it's a soft plastic but indoors is a constant -5 generally so gives a good idea of how a boot will feel in Europe NZ or BC unless its cold. Overall it's super hard to compare as they flex differently and obviously the liner will have an effect too. Best bet is to compare when trying them on

Also I maybe wrong but I think Matt just worked in a shop in the east before atomic. Like me he worked on many differnt boots but I don't think he was ever directly responsible for the design of full tilt. I may be totally wrong though. Hopefully he will clear things up

honestly I have always wondered how guys like Seth Morrison ride in full tilts, like what type of mods does he do to his boots to get them to be stiff enough to skis those gnarly AK lines? Like Tom said he did some bolting of the shell for his boss but even then would they be stiff enough?

If you double bot the shell you can get it pretty stiff and I know Seth uses foam injection liners in his. Using a foam liner fills up every gap in the boot and the foam is stiff so it will stiffen the boot quite a bit. I have also heard he may use 2 tounges but this has never been confirmed to me.
