First of all, thanks for opening this thread and reading my question (which I havn't found any answer on internet).

Ok, so I take all my photos in RAW, which turns out to be a CR2 file (Camera Raw 2).
My question is, how do I save my picture i've just edited in Photoshop Camera Raw in raw format. Because either I save the data as a XMP file, which will allow me to reopen the photo as I edited it, or I just hit the SAVE button and the file extensions I have and .jpg .gif .DNG .png etc etc.
Basically, when I am happy with my corrections, how do I save my photo in raw format, as shot. I'm quite sick when I see a picture of 30MB turned down to 13MB...

I'm thinking its probably because nobody really ever wants to export to raw and just go to camera raw to edit the raw when they're moving it to jpeg/png/whatever. but there might be an option to do it in another raw format, I dont use ps very often

save your unedited raw file as a .dng. save the file you start enhancing in photoshop as a TIFF file. if you edit nondestructively using background copies and adjustment layers you will always be able to return to your original non corrected image. .dng or .tif will not compress your file and allows you to open and work with your file in multiple platforms.

Do you RAW editing in Lightroom. It uses the exact same engine as ACR does, only in a better form factor.
