Speed Riding? Anyone?

I have this overwhelming desire to get into speed riding. I have some friends that are uber into paragliding so I'm starting out there and plan to get into speed riding next season.

Everything is on sale around here so I'm kinda trying to figure out a new set up. I have an AT set up already but it's super heavy and not very versatile.

The plan is to bring to pairs of skis with me to Europe/Russia next winter. I'm already bringing my ARWs, but I need a light weight AT set up that can handle 60mph runs + in bounds powder laps.

So, super stable, lightweight, less rocker. Binding Suggestions on these? Dynafit are out of the question because I already have boots that fit and the only dynafit ones that fit cost $800 and aren't about to go on sale (not to mention bringing to pairs on a plane and traveling with them).

Anyone else gotten into this? Experiences? Equipment suggestions?

From what I gather, speed riding is far more common in Europe, especially France. So your headed the right way. Maybe look around in some of their regionals. As far as a setup goes, maybe a ski like the influence 105 or 115. 4frnt turbo might be another good ski? Then for bindings, Barons would probably be the way to go if your looking to save weight, but still be able to rip inbounds. Hopefully some of that was even remotely helpful! Good luck with it!

Don't you have atomic boots? I may be wrong as it may be an issue wit the small size you wear but atomic have tech insert soles for the new boots next season. You may be able to get those to fit, or maybe just buy the new shells and use your current liners and footbeds in those. Shell work is the easy part it's the foot alignment with footbeds most boot fitters struggle with. Any way that may help you with bindings as unless you go tech you will be stuck with heavy bindings which ride well or light weight ones that you certainly would not want to ride hard on.

Just confirmed with my Atomic friend. This idea is a no go. My midget feet will not allow.


I did see the memorial day tents going up though. There is a pair of TLT5's at the mountaineering shop in town that, as far as I know, haven't been demo'd in the last 2 years. So I'm thinking perhaps I can talk them down in price if I did a full set up. I'm pretty certain I'm the only adult in this town with feet my size.

They had around 10 pairs of demo's with dynafit bindings that were in my size range, all around 600. I recon that with some extreme bargaining I could get skis, boots, and bindings all very lightly used/new for under $1000.

for a binding i was going to say something like a Marker F10/12 touring binding but if you're looking for something you can abuse I would look at a Baron or Duke.

i don't know what you're looking to spend on a ski but Volkl has a pretty awesome V-Werks Katana coming out next year. Same idea as the current Katana but is carbon fibre instead of titanium making it super light while still being a hard charging ski. other than that they've got some pretty light skis in their touring line. check out the Nunataq or the Nanuq

The paragliding and touring parts are pretty important.

The French man.... this is a tgr topic at best. Basically no one here is willing to spend the $$$$$ to buy a bunch of gear and then pay to fly it across the world. Good luck with your jumping off cliffs and whatnot... ever try it without a chute its pretty fun too.
