Idea: Use donator money to create NS Make a Wish

Can anybody tell me a reason why this wouldn't be awesome?

I'd absolutely donate if this was the case- If an NSer was hit with the unthinkable, we could use a little donator $ to buy them a plane ticket and arrange via NS internet/industry power for them to ski with their hero- or something like that. I feel like this site has too much influence and too many members to not do something awesome like this with it.

Anyways, it's just a thought. I have no idea how much there actually is, how often people donate or how people would feel about doing something like this.

Your thoughts?

and yes that would be awesome, it could be great to give the most possible support to people who cant afford surgery or any other medical support, just for the sake of helping out... but what you suggested is dope too

Well medical stuff is hard because that can go into the 100s of 1000s of dollars.

I meant more along the lines of helping a terminally Ill NSer ski a dream resort or meet their fav pro, etc. With the connections this site has, I feel like it would really stretch the shit out of the available $, whatever it is.

I'm not theirs he prognoses of their conditions but I know for a fact there are a few dealing with the Big C.

I will have to dig through my PMs but I was exchanging msgs with a kid who was pretty bummed out because of his condition. Haven't heard anything of it since and it kinda has me worried a little.

Also it could extend to friends of NSers who love to ski. It's all about doing good because you have the power to, not just for who's cool enough/ active enough etc y'know?

check out montanan on the opioid dependence thread.. vibes go out to those kind of guys and I've heard of others with cancer (not necessairly crazy deadly types) and other stuff, I think its a great idea and it can be rewarded by seeing the edits of people really happy in those situations, and knowing you were part of that.

Anyone have experience or know the specifics of donation tax legality? I know that if you PayPal somebody a dollar, they're required to pay taxes on that gift if they're not a tax exempt organization. I could see this getting especially messy if donations cross international borders. Logistically, it would seem simplest if Person X payed for a plane ticket, Person Y payed for lift ticket, and Person Z purchased lodging, etc, but those sorts of large donations seem unlikely from single donators.

Holte, interesting point but I don't hear too much worrying about how to handle the tax involved with donations now, I don't see it becoming an issue just because it's being used for something positive.

Again I have no idea what this dough is used for now, but to me it makes sense to keep "donations" for something that benefits people besides the ones making money from the site anyways. Bishop, what are your thoughts? Is this a stupid idea? I have zero details, so I would love your take on putting together something like this.

i prefer supporting the NS beer fund personally. don't take this the wrong way, but i feel like anyone who really is interested in skiing likely can afford to make whatever wish they have come true already.

That's all well and good, but if it was your money would you donate it? very unlikely, I'm not trying to make you sound horrible, that's just a fact.

The point is they're not going to want to use ns money for it.

Even if we had to start another fund, I'd still be in.



Kinda hilarious that Lesh ratchet threads will be on the front page in seconds, but something like this gets almost 0 attention.

If NS is so proud about it's community, this would be a great time to come together and do something cool for the least fortunate among us whether it uses donator funds or not. Beers are cool and all, but I think this would be way cooler for a lot of reasons.

Big Spence, I meant it more along the lines of using NS's industry power to perhaps get them to meet their ski idol, etc. Something that might not necessarily cost money but would take connections to make happen. The money part is actually quite minimal for most aspects of it. Plane tickets are cheap as fuck and might not even be necessary in some cases, but if this were an official thing, airlines/resorts love that sort of shit anyways.

I dunno, food for thought. I think the idea has merit.

It's a good idea, but it seems like a bridge we can cross when we get to it, rather than trying to raise money before it happens (if that's what you were saying) it doesn't seem to make a ton of sense to have a large stock of money INCASE someone on our community of a hundred and some thousand becomes ill.

Of course I would be down to put in the effort to make some kids dream come true, though.

Well that's just it, we already have a really kick ass donator system in effect that for all intents and purposes is just being used for beer money for admins.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't get beer money out of the deal because that's pretty freakin' rad and our admins are cool as hell, but shit man that seems like kind of a waste of a really dope system to me and it could be put to use in a much greater cause.

Mostly it's the willingness to use the industry connections to make cool shit happen though, the money really is the smallest part- anybody can have money- it's the very specific influence this site has over pros that could make something very special and meaningful happen that would otherwise be impossible.

I'm just gonna let it sit though at this point. If an admin doesn't chime in it'll never happen in any capacity. I could talk until I'm blue in the face and nobody would get anywhere.

How about fundraising for a NS'r that needs a sit ski? Give someone the tools to keep on shredding. A sit ski setup is well over 10 grand.
