Can an opinion be wrong?

A few kids in my English class and I have gotten into a heated argument about this. I mean you can have some really stupid opinions but they can still be wrong. Like saying a phone is made out of cheese just isn't logical. So yes i think that you can have a wrong opinion.

Saying a phone is made out of cheese isn't an opinion. That's a factual thing, it either is made out of cheese or it isn't.
However, an opinion like "cheese doesn't taste good" is definitely wrong.

That's still not an opinion. A phone isn't made of cheese. Just bc you say "in my opinion" doesn't change the fact that you're making an incorrect statement.

Dude... look at this color chart. Now back at the flower. Now back at the chart. What do you see?
The colors look the same to me (Opinion)

by definition an opinion can't be "wrong" in that it's subjective to some extent. that being said, some opinions are much more well informed and based on better reasoning and evidence than others

as douglas adams said: "all opinions are not equal. some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others"

for instance, imagine youre having a conversation about skiing with someone who doesnt know much at all about it. you tell him that seth morrison is a really good skier, and he says he's not...he's entitled to his opinion as "good" or "bad" skier is subjective, but for all practical intents and purposes, he IS wrong... knowing what you do allows you to back up your opinion that seth is a great skier while his opinion is based on ignorance

Opinions are not quantifiable.
Clifford the dog is red. Fact.
Clifford the dog is rad. Opinion, someone else may think otherwise. If you can prove something true or false then it's not really an opinion.
If someone, for example, said that pizza sucks, I could say they were wrong, but its my opinion that pizza does not suck.

Well, according to wikipedia the color orange is classified as being between 590 and 620 nm (wavelength). So depending on which school bus you are looking at... it's a fact
