Marker vs. FKS/Pivot

I want to know the benefits and disadvantages of both... everyone yells and tells me to get Markers just because they got them , Todd Wallnutts got them and the hype wants you to have them...

I dunno, when I see my buddies ski them it looks so fucking unsafe because they never eject and also it looks like they're all plastic and thus not so durable...

FKS on the otherhand seem to do a pretty good job with anyone I saw and also look safer and more stable due to being all metal...

someone just explain me the marker hype or tell me why I should not get FKS' lol

Only the fks 180 is full metal so if you get 140 they have as much plastic as a marker. They will both release the same on the same din and both set correctly. The fks has a more elastic feeling which may let you get away without pre releasing a bit more but not by much. The fks sucks to get replacement parts for though where as marker is much easier.

Personally I would get a sth12 or 14 from last season but any of the bindings you look at will be great

oh ok... so basically both are just marketing tricks, each in it's own way? marker more the name, fks more the all metal thingy?

It's not really marketing it's just rumours spread here. Your better off going into a good shop and chatting to the staff. Ask what they use and why. That will give you better advice generally.

All bindings can work well its just finding the one that you can afford and has the right features for you. I have used jesters, px's, fks, peaks and I currently use sth's and a set of sth steels. Honestly id be happy with any of those bindings minus the px as I ride a bit hard for those. The reason I went Sth Was I was working for amer. if I was working for marker I would ride those if I worked for Rossi I would ride fks. All I would say though is if I was buying them I would not get fks as they are so awkward to get parts for.

Just to add, find a shop which sell them all. That way the staff get to pick whatever they want, and cost is not an issue so they will get what they think to be the beat

Just about to get a pair ok fks 14's for a pair of AR7's but the only one's i can find that i can afford are the 140XXL. Are these these ok to mount on AR&'s or are the brakes to wide??

is the binding actually too wide or could you just replace the brake? i always wondered...

The binding would be fine but the brakes would be to wide. If you could find brakes you could swap them easily. Brakes are just hard to get for fks

Never had a single issue with my Marker Jesters, while I dont ride park Im a heavy chap (220) and I charge when im going down a hill and my Jesters never let me down, one release when it was required (ski dug into a hidden hole) but like any good binding if you are on the correct one, with the correct din and it has been installed correctly there should be no issues. 99% of the problems I have seen with equipment failure have been user error and incorrect set up rather than the actual equipment being at fault.

What are the disadvantages of having brakes which are too wide?

^ you will constantly catch the brakes on each other and when you carve the brakes could hit the snow and potentially bend. Generally using a brake which is too wide will usually result in damaging the brakes which will result in you having to replace them for the correct size any way. But you may well damage the binding too so it's not worth it get the right size in the first l place
