Yeah, I guess I'm not as interested in debating the outcome of that particular football game, and/or the specifics of that game, or even the teams on either side, I'm more interested in the philosophy/system/concepts.
For the record, Barnwell is a Giants fan and picked the Skins to win the division.
I think it's obvious that RGIII not playing a single snap prior to Monday was a huge hinderance in many respects for Washington, and yes, much like the Saints were overmatched and unprepared for the Skins last year, there was the element of surprise undeniably. The Skins are a good team, the Eagles have some holes, and it's plausible, likely even, that the Eagles miss the playoffs while the Skins don't. The Eagles first 3 games take place in ELEVEN DAYS, and then have THREE ROAD GAMES against I believe Denver, NYG, and....someone else good, I forget. So....The Eagles going 9-7 would be a success.
And, yes, the undeniable x factor is whether or not the Eagles as a unit, but particularly Vick stay healthy. Given the track record, everyone is right to be skeptical, especially considering the fact that they're running twice as many plays per game, thus twice as likely to be injured. One thing though is that the system is designed to get rid of the ball as quick as humanly possible, which would at least mitigate the likelihood that Vick takes an unprotected shot delivering the ball.
Either way, and fandom aside, what the Eagles are doing on offense is pretty damn amazing, and infinitely entertaining as a fan of the game. With one of the best O-lines in football and arguably one of the best backs/#1 wideout combos in football, their offense is going to be explosive and frankly, it's just as likely that the eagles improve week to week as your arguments in the Skins favor about cohesiveness could just as easily apply to the Eagles. There were several instances where Vick made the wrong read, and where the execution and timing were lacking. It's possible that they get better offensively, which frankly is scary.
In any case, it's exciting to see what's happening, and again, I can't stress enough for real fans of the game and its innerworkings to read Barnwell. I'm not talking fantasy and stats, I'm talking what makes football an incredible game.
