The NFL ignored the true effects of these repeated collisions. Not only did they ignore but they purposely hid the evidence from players practically since the NFL started. A lot of these players that are filing for money played during the 60's and 70's so you can imagine how little the players themselves knew about head injuries and how much less the NFL shared with them
I know what you're saying in that the players should be held responsible, they should have known what they were putting their bodies through and stuff. While they probably understood the physical effects playing in the NFL would have on their bodies, the long term brain health was/is way understated . It's really sad hearing these stories of guys in their 50's and 60's that can't recognize friends, can't work, problem generating new memories, depression and the staggering bills that come from these problems. The lawsuit isn't about getting rich again, it's about trying to offset these staggering costs from playing in the NFL - and making the NFL billions and billions of dollars.
Also a lot of those players definitely don't make millions of dollars. Shit, Edelman makes $750,000/yr and he has a clause in his contract that cuts that in half if he gets put on IR. Combine that with the normal NFL career of 3.5 years and that is not a whole lot of money for the rest of your life. Especially if you're getting brain damage and are unable to get a job after you retire from the NFL
