dude on PFT was 100% right. the lions are still the lions, regardless if they were in 1st. they are more prone to shooting themselves in the foot then winning, thats a damn fact. oh well. i doubt they have much of chance now, though GB and CHI play eachother at the end of the year so one of them is for sure losing one.
I got jumped on in here last year for saying that the replacement refs were only marginally worse than the regular ones, poor me. The nflra are the only people on the field, in the front offices, in the training rooms, in new york, or on the air who aren't the the best that the country has to offer, they just don't belong out there.
i think the "real" refs do much more stuff where they see obvious fouls and let them go. or overestimate minor fouls.
it just seems like they have more of an agenda. like they meet early and say, "tonight we dont call holding unless a guys shirt is ripped off".
they should really work to simplify a few rules and take subjectivity out of it.
take these three plays:
kuechly against pats
vikings LB late againts ravens
wheeler against hoomanawanui
both very similar. the first one was assessed as holding but they kind of picked it up due to the interception (so, they at least thought it was a foul). second one was, if at all, holding, but he got called for PI and the third one was clear holding and a flat out tackle, and nothing.
there is just no consistency. some ref crews dont allow anything and others just let too much go. others are swayed by big moments and home crowds.
cowboys/packers, i seriously think that the cowboys got robbed offensively quite a few times offensively and defensively, while similar things werent called on the other side.
one that still stings is the "hit on long snapper" penalty the chargers got against the texans. like he didnt even touch the guy in any illegal way. then, a game i watched a while back they almost killed the dude and nothing.
i dont say that too much bad calls happen, but the level of consistency within one game and accross games is awful.
and the replays, omg. bengals were in quite some ugly ones if i can say that. that green-ellis overturn on 4th down was probably the worst ref decision i have ever seen. CONCLUSIVE evidence that he WASNT TOUCHED? what? then, for some reason, a week earlier, against the chargers, one ref thinks that allen was down, even though we was easily a foot off the ground with his whole body when the ball was knocked loose. before that, gates's knee was down and they didnt overrule it because there was not enough evidence. well, a ton more than on that green-ellis play.
1) get that centralized replay thing. at least make that consistent. and get more cameras. the second turnover by the chargers against the bengals wasnt reviewable because there was no sideline shot.
2) get rid of that spot-of-foul thing for PI. i think 15 yds are plenty. for blatant tackling you could think about more severe consequences, but minor contacts shouldnt cost you 50 yds.
3) or have some guy review big penalties. this could take under 5 seconds if you think about it in most cases. especially helmet-to-helmet and other 15yd penalties.
4) redefine (or publicize) how illegal contact, holding, PI are called. not the rules, the actual instructions given to refs.
And mayo, you been watching hightower this season? He's fucking garbage..
and wilfork, kelly, vollmer, solder...etc.
The amount of significant injuries they've experienced so far this season is astounding, it's honestly a miracle they are 10-4, it doesn't bode well for their playoff hopes though
mayo, spikes and hightower have to be the best LB corps against the run, but against the pass, they struggled mightily.
spikes got a bit better though and defended quite a few passes this year. hightower should be even better, but he obviously had some issues. mayo is the best allrounder and his loss really hurts them. maybe as much as wilforks injury.
nice job to get to 10-4, if they pull out one playoff win, this is a great season.
fur sure. They are fucking horrendous against the pass, BB loves his LB's to be big massive hole pluggers. It would be nice if they had someone more versatile like Kuechly, it was amazing watching him play against the Pats a few weeks ago the guy was literally in every single play
^BearJew that is a very likely possibility. @ Bills then vs. Jets you would think miami handles the rest of their season easily. Pats/Ravens is a coin toss this weekend and will come down to the last couple minutes of the 4th. Then they finish against the bills and a few bad bounces you never know what could happen..
The funny thing is (prepare yourself for a lot of "ifs"), if the Dolphins win out, the Pats lose out, the Colts and Bengals finish 10-6. The Dolphins are the #2 seed because they hold the tiebreaker over Colts and Bengals.
they obviously have a hard time finding that one-do-it-all guy but they seriously try to scheme around it and find that role players. last year tavon wilson played alot of that hybrid safety/LB role and this year, jamie collins is used more as a man cov LB than a pass rusher (what most people thought was his role).
overall they do a nice job with a lot of no names on defense. they give up yards in bunches but buckle down in the redzone and take the ball away. i think it could be worse given their personnel and injuries.
i am a chargers fan, but its so incredible what the pats have done over the last decade. just being consistently on the top, its amazing. there is noone left (save brady) from all three super bowls and not too many from their perfect season and still a remarkable turnover from 1 or 2 years back. they turn the roster over like mofos and still win. this year is no exception, but more likely the best evidence so far.
so many other teams have 1-3 good seasons, but thats it.
haha it was called a total of 6 times all last season, once on a defensive player, notoriously dirty and talkative bernard pollard and even that was only because he squared up against a coach. but yea you've seen it plenty of times.
U came into talk about a play u didn't see, intentionally misinterpreted my point by taking it literally and even with that u still have to grasp at straws and ur 'plenty' turned into one
Yea who was I kidding. This is the Dolphins were talking about. Go Ravens. Yes go Ravens. Take away our playoff hopes now instead of giving us false hope next week.
