I don't think the artist knows what the fuck he is talking about.

That picture is of the evolution of man that has taken place over the course of millions of years. Why is the chimp using a fishing line with money at the end as if he is running humanity.

Here's my analysis.

The first half of the photo is the evolution of man, and evolution implies the constant search for the perfectly suited animal to their environment. The second half is what you put on a dog to make him chase something he will never get. So combining these two ideas and we have a number of interpretations (if you are writing an essay) I think its like we are always trying to evolve to be perfect, which is an unattainable goal. The pursuit of perfection is never ending.

I think the image is not referring to evolution, but rather our ancestors. We as humans are on a "quest for meaning," yet are hamstrung by our inability to look further than money in our quest.

We chase after the dollar, but it brings us no happiness. We then raise our offspring to do the same, but it in turn brings them no fulfillment in their quest for meaning. The cycle then continues as they raise their own offspring.

You do know that a lot of religions are starting to accept evolution, and are integrating it into their teachings, right? And my take is basically like everyone else's. Humans have always been driven by greed even though for many being rich is an unattainable, impossible goal. Or maybe it's that money is driving evolution. I don't know I ain't no Nicky Keefer

But seriously. This dude came to my church once and debunked evolution in a 3 hour presentation. It proved everything I was taught completely wrong, and this dude had some major facts to back it up. One things that really stuck out on his presentation was the whole carbon dating. He explained how scientists have no evidence or facts to back up there claims on there estimations with carbon dating. Wish I could explain it better, but you guys should google it.

It's a dumb picture. The implication that money and material wealth dictate and guide human actions, albeit cliche, is understandable. But I don't understand why the monkey would be holding the fishing rod. This seems to imply that our actions are directly controlled by either a) monkeys or b) our extremely ancient ancestors. Neither of which makes any sense.

Another interpretation is that the quest for wealth has fueled our evolution. This doesn't make any sense either. It's well-established in the scientific community that differential reproductive fitness is what fuels evolution. The quest for wealth has nothing to do with evolution.

My best guess is that the picture doesn't actually have any meaning. The author probably created it because he knew it would be thought-provoking. He was probably hoping people would attach their own meaning to it.
