IPS monitors?

Are ips monitors worth it? I've been using my old acer 24 inch TN panel (60hz) for the last year or two, but I doubt it's calibrated correctly (or very high quality in the first place). Are there any good tools for calibrating monitors that anyone would recommend?\

I feel like color correction is just pointless if I'm not going to be able to see what its actually supposed to look like (or if the colors/contrast will just change when I go on an actually calibrated screen)

Thinking of also getting a low response time 120hz monitor (gaming), but would an ips be better? I've never really seen a comparison first hand (aside from youtube videos). Would a micro center or bestbuy maybe have some on display for me to compare?

Oh, forgot, what about the korean catleap monitors? Anyone have experience with them?

Yes, IPS monitors are far, far superior. I can't stand using some shitty TN panel. I don't have one of those cheap Korean ones, but from all accounts, they're apparently pretty good. Some people who sell those Korean monitors guarantee 'pixel perfect' panels in them.

What size are you looking for? What specifically are you using the monitor for (photo or video)? What is your budget?

I shoot mainly video but I do photos too (probably 75% video but I do shoot photos on some days). My budget is basically as cheap as I can have it be. I could probably spend up to like $250 or $300 maybe. I don't care about viewing angles, or at least to an extent. Obviously if the image changes if I move my head 2 inches that's shitty. I only really need 1080p but 1440p with the korean monitors isn't bad.
What about calibration and stuff? I'm sure if this one were calibrated (ie right color balance/contrast/brightness) it would at least be marginally better.

Though you don't care about viewing angles, IPS panels have great viewing angles. Once you have a 1440p monitor, 1080p looks obselete. If you can afford it I'd recommend buying one. What monitor do you have now?

I have one of the Shimian 2560x1440 IPS monitors, love it, and have recommended it to a few other kids on here. If you want to have it calibrated properly, get a monitor calibrater for something like $100. You'll need a custom color profile in your GPU settings as there are no on monitor preferences. But for the price ($330 including express (shipped friday arrived monday) shipping from Korea) they are killer

I have some acer 24 inch TN panel that's 60 hz (though I have it running at 65-70hz when gaming though a little hack I saw on youtube). I think I'm going to go to a few stores and see for myself if I really need the ips panels or if I could just get a good tn panel (thinking of this 144hz 1ms response one ttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313)

Also, what about multi monitor setups? I figure I might as well use the old one as a second monitor right? Or do they both need to be the same monitor? (I know my gpu can support)

A lot of people also overclock those Catleap monitors to 120Hz; that link I provided should have some information on overclocking them. Yeah, have a look. You should be pleasantly surprised by the picture quality of an IPS panel/1440p.

Multi monitor setup should be fine. You don't need two of the same monitors. As long your GPU can handle it (which you said it could) you'll be sweet.
