Usage of mahalo

I honestly think its a tad bit foolish for professionals to take a word and turn it in to something that totally makes no sense. The meaning of mahalo is thank you. The context skiers use it in makes zero sense. I may as well go and take hola and turn it into steezy. You'd call me an idiot if I did that. I feel the more appropriate word for this situation would be akunamatata. Your opinions and comments are welcome.

I was so fucking confused when i first heard skiers saying mohalo. I feel you op. Also the hawaiian language is super serious like when they say mohalo its supposed to be like deep down thanks.

if you go and read about the spiritual/sacred meanings behind words, you'll see "mahalo" doesn't only mean "thank you." i asked some hawaiians about it when i was last there and they said it can be used like "peace (literally and saying like 'yo peace out,' etc.)" or "namaste"

also can be interchanged with english words like: admiration, praise, esteem, regards, respects; to admire, praise, appreciate.

This. I've never heard anybody say it once, until the orage masters edit. I also don't know many skiers and I don't exactly live in a ski town or in boulder or breck or something. So that may be why.

Kinda funny actually, me wyble and dylan started saying mahalo one day because it was so hot at PC we joked it was Hawaii. Coincidentally it was early march 2012 while that episode aired late february of 2012. They actually aren't connected at all, but that line he says is hilarious.
