External Audio Recorder?

Does anyone use a external audio recorder for filming skiing? I'm contemplating buying a zoom h1 or something to get better quality audio, but idk if it would work well for shooting skiing. If anyone uses one (Eg zoom h4n, tascam dr40), is it worth it?

Also, would I be able to somehow attach it to a flycam/glidecam and have that work? I normally just plug the mic into my t2i with magic lantern, btw. Wondering what people use for audio setups.

I'm not filming skiing and I don't have an external recorder yet, but I've been looking into some type of hot shoe mount for a mic, light, and recorder or monitor. something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Triple-Bracket-Microphones-Monitors-VBrack3/dp/B006U4AV54/ref=sr_1_6?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1368289477&sr=1-6

i'm not sure how much weight hot shoes can handle but those types of brackets seem like they should be ok for a light weight setup

If you just want a simple sound setup, the best thing would be to grab a Sound Devices 788t recorder with a CL-8 mixer and a Schoeps CMIT5U shotgun.  The shotgun mic is a flashy blue color which looks pretty sweet as well.  god Bless!

Bump. Been thinking of just upgrading my mic itself. Would a Rode videomic or VMP work well straight with the t2i/magic lantern?
and @yommytacoe That's a little too expensive...
