Final Cut Pro X

Is the program worth buying. I'm using imovie 11 currently and find the program good, but not amazing. Also, are student discounts offered for the software if it turns out its good?

If your mac is old enough, get final cut 7. And you do know you can torrent it (get it for free), right? Im not suggesting it, just making sure you know that option is available...

running a retina display so by the sounds of it the text would be really small and difficult to read

I wouldn't spend a dime on that program at this point. it was good to do quick edits and quicj export, but is weird to use and eats up your computer HDD

Never used it. never will. Id suggest making the change to CS6...However...Adobe has also announced that they will be moving to a full cloud system now and doing away with the creative suites. Just something to consider for future updates idk. If i were to go back to final cut I would use FCP7 tho

I use it and like it, but im not sure it is worth the $300 price tag to be honest. Also now that I think of it and see these other comments it does seem to eat up a lot of your HDD space if you dont keep on top of deleting your old files from it.

Final cut and Motion 5 are significantly less expensive than the Adobe equivalents. sure you can do more with adobe if you really know how to use it. but if budget is a concern, or you're not a student, FCP10 and Motion 5 are much more obtainable (motion 5 is only $50 i believe, as opposed to however many hundreds of dollars after effects is)

if you're making the move from imovie though, final cut will be much quicker to learn. considering FCP10 is basically the same layout. I'd say go for it

Yeah but who actually BUYS adobe? no one, even they are making it so you cant buy it anymore. cs6 is insanely easy to crack, people just think its hard so they give up. You literally download the trial, download the cracked file, click about 5 times and its activated fully.

All i did was download the trial then get little snitch on firefox so that adobe can't connect to the internet to verify the serial number

No, do not buy it. Get premiere pro cs6. Final Cut pro X is a dumbed down fc7 .

shit. i had no idea this was going down. cloud thing is a huge transition and the subscription, wow. Its like every 4 years you are subscribed you have bought two $1800 software packages. With freelance designers and videographers undercutting eachother every which way, I can't imagine factoring that cost into my life.

What will all you guys do when adobe goes cloud and cs6 becomes irrelevant to the new cameras? Honestly get on the cloud it's cheap and you have legal software. Unless you all plan on learning avid or smoke you will have no option soon but to spend money on software. You all complain when people steel skis but no one bats an eyelid when you steel thousands of dollars worth of software

That's how it is when you cruelly buy software. You can't expect a software suite to still be relevant 4 years later so if you want to be doing the most up to date things at the fastest speed you pay to upgrade. But 1 job could get you that money so it's not much relaly and if it gets you more work its worth it. Try working in 3d. Maya alone is nearly 4000.

For what it is, FCPX is pretty sweet. Granted, I'm not even in college yet and all I'll be using it for is simple edits and throwing together random footage so it's not all too bad.
