Bibby Pro vs JJ

So I am looking for a Big-Mountain Pow ski and I have found these two and I would like some help deciding. I am 130 lbs, 5'10", 16y/o. I ski A-Basin, Breck, Keystone, with a few days at Telluride, Crested Butte, and Wolf Creek. I ski aggressively and want this ski to to hit drops, natural features, perform in light pow,wet pow, and still be manageable in trees, crust, chunder, and groomers back to the lift.

The Blister Gear Review praised how the Bibby excelled in powder and the days after powder, and how they did surprisingly well in trees. The in the review of the AK JJ, it noted how the regular JJ had some problems with tip dive, but overall were a very good ski. However I haven't really found many reviews on the JJ that are as in depth as Blister

Some other things that I am considering are that the Bibbys have better base and edges while the JJs are lighter(unsure on this one) and the 1/2 cap construction is a plus. Also I have heard conflicting reviews on Moment's durability.

Your first paragraph decscribed all the reason to go for the Bibby pro over a the JJ.

That's what I was thinking when I wrote it, but only because there is no Blister review of the standard JJs. But is there any place where the JJ excels over the Bibby?

I am definitely leaning toward the Bibby, but I found the JJs for $70 less, so I am trying to determine whether the $70 is worth it to go with the Bibby

Bibby's are SOOO good, I swear moment builds them with unicorn tears in the core! They hold their own in miss mash heavy whistler pow days and are just as good in crud, ice, and other conditions you'd find in between storms. Great in the trees, pretty surfy, but they love going Mach 10 down steep open faces, I doubt you will find a speed limit. I mounted -3/+3 and they ski pretty well switch and like to spin if that's your thing, but I also prefer I more balanced ski anyways. Seriously the best all around powder ski! Perfect flex, so light, so much pop (lots of carbon stringers, ash/pine are also fairly lively)...

Durability is good, definitely enter than average. Mine have barely any base damage an I definitely took them over a lot of thin rocky spots while learning my way around whis (I also wax around once a week which helps with sintered bases), edges are good too, top sheets have the standard chip/peeling issues.

I've never skied JJ's or AK JJ's, but I don't hear great things. They have issue with chatter, deflection, and really are a dedicated jib pow skis for light snow conditions (eg Utah)....

Oh and for size reference, I'm 5'10, 140, expert, an I have 184's which are a good all around size. If they were a dedicated pow ski or I skied a more open resort I'd probably be on 190's....

I didn't love the JJ's after trying other powder ski's. They delaminated after 20 day's and had like 5 edge crack. They are a good beginner powder ski imo, go for the moment.

I second this. Zbphoto encouraged me to buy bibbys and so far they are are phenomenal.

Bump, just going to throw some other skis into the mix.

Originally I was looking at the 184 Bibbys. Right now on a certain website the 190s are on sale and I was wondering if they would be too much of a ski for someone of my size? But that got me thinking, would the 185s even be too much? So now I am looking at the 174s. Thoughts? I would like this ski to still be somewhat playful and 180+ skis seem like I might be sacrificing playfulness.

Also, I did some more thinking, and I have kind of realized that I really won't be doing much flippy spinney stuff on my big mt skis until I get better at park and my air awareness improves. And when I do get comfortable throwing stuff I wont really want a big mountain twin for that, I will probably buy something along the lines of the SFB, Jeffry, J-Mo, PB-J, Blend, etc. So that is why I am interested in a ski with a little more of a traditional mount, side cut, and tail shape, while staying playful for my style of popping off of stuff. So after reading some Blister reviews and doing some deal hunting, I am looking at the BD AMPerage. I know it is more of a TGR style ski rather thank newschoolers, but hopefully some of you can chime in.

Your 5'10, don't get 174's, they will be way to short. 184's or 190's would be fine depending on your style, where you ski, and other skis in your quiver. If your say an ex racer and like big open bowls and have multiple skis get the 190, but if this is one of two pairs and your going to be using it as more of an all mountain ski get the 184. I got 184's but if I were to buy them again I'd go for next years 192 now that I have JMOs for every day riding.

You shouldn't have a problem spinning on bibby's if you mount -2 or -3 from centre (KC and some other guys mount here, where mine are). Butters might be a bit harder as they have stiff tips and tails, but I didn't really notice, and honestly most people will be spending more time skiing than buttering so thats a good thing in my mind.

Last years AMP's were MEHHHH, weak construction and super thin edges/base in order to save weight even though they are heavy for an A/T ski. The past years have all been cap which really isn't great, next years look better, but I'd still say go for bibby's and not an AT brand ski.

^That is literally the description I would give Bibby's so stop confusing your self and just buy 184's already!

This is the main thing I have been worried about isn't my height, but It is my weight. I am such a skinny and lanky guy so it can be kind of confusing looking at size charts sometimes. If I ever go 190+ it will be on a true big mt, alaska, silverton type of ski.

The other ski in my quiver for next season will be a 171 Liberty Morphic (for all mountain and park) which is pretty small, but I got them for $200 in super condition. I might buy a ski like around 100-110mm underfoot for a playful allmnt soft snow ski toward the end of the season. But the Bibbys will be more of an all mountain ski overall.

Just get 184's, 190's don't sound like your thing. If your worried about float get next years 186 its a few mm wider....
