What is the general consensus on what the best Chapstick etc is for skiing? I like carmex a lot but I don't think it has good sun protection or whatever...discuss
Just this year I was introduced to Aquaphor. I had windburnt lips from skiing (before I used it) and it was eliminated within 24 hours after my first application. Haven't had any chapped lips since. I use just the general healing ointment (they sell separate lip versions too) and will never use anything else. I believe they now make one that incorporates an SPF rating of 30 as well.
In all seriousness, carmex is about the worst thing you can put on your lips. Maybe bacon grease might be a little worse. There is no SPF in carmex. Bag Balm is the same. They are fine for after skiing, but not for skiing.
I used to love Dermatone, but it is tough to find:
i've been using one by blistex that tastes like orange cream. It works pretty good and has spf 15. The only bad thing is because of the flavor i sat and put in on the whole lift ride for like 2 days because it tasted so good.
whatever you put on your lips, make sure it does not contain petroleum. vaseline, for example, is very bad for your lips, and will make your body think that your lips are hydrated, when they really are just relying on the petroleum jelly - causing dryness as soon as the vaseline wears off.
