For the love of Christ, this no helmet trend is the dumbest thing to happen to skiing in a long time. People bring in tight pants, ok I can deal with that. Gangster clothes? That's fine.
It doesn't matter to most of the people on the hill how you look.

Skiing rails is probably one of the easiest ways to knock yourself. We've all caught edges or sticky rails, so you should realize how easily you can get rocked, even on mellow days.

I get that you 'do what you want' and that skiing is all about being a rebel for some people, but the explosion of the number of edits with kids just rocking goggles is pathetic.

No such thing as 'no helmet steeze'

Another point,
If you want to go out and put yourself in danger, that's not as bad as making a sick edit that probably 2000 12-15 year olds will be watching while trying to pick out their 'look' for the next season

i dont wear a helmet for a lot of reasons but mainly bcus its so compfy not to wear one and just wear a beanie. im careful and i dont push myself as hard as i used to. i havent had a problem hitting my head really hard so far.

Wear a helmet. I can't play any sports now cause of a concussion. I wasn't throwing down or anything. It was my fifth lap of the day. thought I'd get the speed for the jump down...... and I went 120ft on a 60ft jump and knocked my self out cold. This would be a big deal if it was my first concussion. But this was my 7th concussion losing conciousness. I might have just ended park skiing for myself for life... on a straight air...

WEAR A HELMET! :)

I sticked out my Shiv and wear it everyday on the mountain. It's a staple of my look, and actually saved me from a sure concussion this season when I broke my collabone. also, Flat brim and helmet look is "trending" so I suppose there's good trends and bad ones as far as head safety.

I've had three concussions skiing (additional on my bike) where I have forgotten several days of my life. The last one caused me to forget the week prior to my accident, and it took three weeks to feel normal again. All of them have occurred with a helmet on. I'm fairly certain I would have cognitive damage if it wasn't for my helmet.

All of these happened when I was cruising and well within my comfort zone. Take from it what you will.

this were i live (seattle) ski stevens crystal snoqualmie alpental helmets have never really been big. maybe thats just bcus the snow is good? ive never skied the east but i hear snow is pretty bad so therefore if u fall you probably hurt yourself more? idk tho?

but seriously if i wanted to be steezy i'd look up to all the pros and think no helmet is a necessary part of style

i havent read anything but he OP, but I think helmets are 1000% more important on jumps. You would have to really fuck up to hit your head on a rail.

I say this in every helmet thread. Growing up skiing helmets just weren't around., look at the Olympics, events, whatever, people just didn't wear em. Learning to ski when I was younger I never wore one . no one ever made me besides entering comps, so naturally I don't. Why would I start wearing one at the ripe age of 23? Had a few minor concussions, but if you don't suck falling and not slamming your dome is pretty easy, unless your cruising

fell off a corrugated this year and my head snapped down and hit the ground. i was wearing a helmet and felt fine. woke up the next morning and could not lift my head. nasty whiplash. if i wasnt wearing a helmet.. who knows

120' was actually 60' and 60' was actually 30'.

Also how exactly did you lose conciousness? Obviously it's not impossible, but did you land upside down? Slam your head on your knees? Possibly punch yourself in the face with poles in hand?

Wear ur helmets, I've had 6 concussions and all with helmets, only 2 of that I can remember what happened. I would be dead by now with out my helmets. You no the "100ft tude rail" thread?? Ya, that was me, u really want to be that dumb? Actually my 6th one happened 2 weekends ago, ya I can't remember saturday or Sunday at all!!

On really warm spring days when I'm not shredding park I won't wear one sometimes. But if I'm skiing any park at all I will wear a helmet

helmets also help with getting bitch whipped by trees when your skiing tight ass lines in the woods. The ear protectors most of the time will stop a tree branch from ear rapeing your ear. Have been impaled in the ear with a tree branch and that sucked.

look up the name Will Schooler if you dont wear a helmet, it should change you mind pretty quick. lost a good friend because he hit his head on a rail, dont want anyone to have to go through that ever again.

Always wear a helmet. I've hit my head a couple times this season doing things that I am usually pretty comfortable with, and one of those times getting a concussion... If I wasn't wearing a helmet, anything could of happened, I wouldn't risk it.

its just a different generation of kids growing up thinking air bags will protect me, my safe car will protect me, my helmet will protect me, my _____ will protect me. i feel as though my generation (im 26) is the last of the guys who grew up understanding the risks of what we were doing w/o all these safety measures seen everywhere. just a mentality, or awareness that fuck, don't hit my head, b/c that will that will fucking hurt. of course stuff happens, but why are all these young kids getting concussions like crazy? have they learned how to carve yet? or understand that hucking/skiing like an idiot isn't worth it?

powder, exposed terrain, and hauling ass through trees, yeah that's a different story, but regular old riding, no sir.

idk, i just think a lot of younger kids (under 20) have this severe lack of respect for how dangerous skiing actually is and it shows with the injuries.

The point of this thread is essentially to remind the kids coming up not to be so obsessed with the edits and skiers with 'no helmet steeze' , and don't put themselves in danger. Those of you who are like 25 or 20 and have had time to figure life(ish) out, this isn't directed at you.

On newschoolers at least, it can seem like something is a trend that everybody needs to jump on (e.g. First drop), when really there is a huge portion of the site that isn't even concerned enough with trends to post about it. But for some people it matters

Damn. Straight knowledge. Good point though with kids getting concussions like crazy. A lot are over-exaggerations I'm sure (120 foot jump kid and 7 black out concussions, OK) but I think your biggest point is kids skiing park before they know how to ski. the most true. I see kids everyday just nuking into jumps big air Dave style and just hucking corks, and guess what, they get fucked up and say it comes with the sport. It really doesn't, you just wanna show the kid in the saga next to you how good you are at skiing. Progression is the best way to protect yourself, not a piece of plastic. Use the gray matter your trying so hard to protect and maybe you just will. That kinda went on. But poi t being I like your style

i totally agree. my friend who is now canadas top biathalete was a very promising freeskier. throwing doubles when he was 12 he had a huge list of sponsors invluding smith, k2, and quiksilver. they pressured him into not wearing a helmet and on his first day without one he was concussed into a coma. thats why u wear helmets
