I had my first few months in the park this year too and it was so fun. Most important thing is to DO and not think to much. You can twiddle your thumbs about a trick / feature for days or you can just do it and get it over with and then its your oyster.
You will find you may slam first time if you're pushing yourself but you'll most probably find that you didnt get hurt atall and it wasn't that hard.
I found that a combination of shredding with buddies and on my own was perfect. Sometimes the push of a friend can make you send something new but I found i concentrated way more on my own and could 'get in the zone' more.
With spins and flips the most important thing is to keep LOOKING with your eyes. Ha, seems simple but you may find you shut your eyes if your hucking new stuff or not concentrating. Spotting my landing helped me stomp new tricks way easier.
I struggled mostly with rails but it just takes practice and practice and practice.
Most of all just remember to HAVE FUN :)
