Suggestions on pain management

I've played sports my whole life including skiing/skating and it's starting to become apparent that it has taken a major toll on my body. I wake up in pain everyday and my back is constantly hurting and when I run my knees ache like crazy (I've had surgery on both) I've been contemplating getting it fixed but have heard that back surgery should be avoided at all costs. Right now I take pain medicine to help manage the pain but I don't really want to keep going down that road. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yoga could be beneficial, ask some experts about it. Strengthening the muscles in your core and back could help.

If your worried about the health factors just bake it in cookies brownies, my buddy even go his mom high by putting green butter in her mac n cheese. or you can get a vaporizer

In the military if you get shot and there's no adrenaline to dull the pain they teach you to break your fingers. Maybe. I just saw it in a movie once.

Seriously DO NOT go down the road of taking oxycotin or other pain meds on the regular. I worked at a doctors office (answering phones) and its sad seeing all the people zombied out on them. Thats their life now.

I have a script for hydrocodone 10/500 which I believe is the same as vicodin I just worry that all the acetaminophen is gonna destroy my kidney's, especially since I drink beer most nights. I like the yoga idea. I have spasms about once every couple of months and sometimes they are so bad that I can't walk. It suck because i'm still in my 20s. My doc told me to stop skiing and thats not gonna happen.

I'd try to wean yourself off the painkillers. I found that when I was taking them daily and then didn't on occasion it really fucked me over, and they're not something you should be dependent on. Also if you don't take them as often you'll notice they work better when you really need them.
I have a lot of chronic pain issues, especially right now due to an injury. I've been doing a lot of yoga and have been seeing a chiropractor. A lot of back and joint issues can really be helped if you get cracked back in line by a professional. Its incredible how much pain in my knees went away just by getting my pelvis cracked. weed helps too

i have a slipped disk right now from a fall and some nerve damage to my right hand it sucks but dont go crazy on pills and just stretching is the best (cheap) option. that and also working out the muscles that are weak to get the stronger helps if u do it correctly, airgo dont over do it.

Yeah I've worked with recovering drug addicts for the past two years as a group therapist at a psych hospital and also worked at a homeless shelter so I've seen the effects of opiate addiction first hand. Most of the people coming in for rehab had been taking oxycontin intravenously because they have such a high tolerance it's the only way they can get high...

Get your medical marijuana card. Pot is a pretty damn cheep option compared to the pain meds you mentioned. My buddy ended up having to be on vicodin for a spine condition where his disc were enlarging and he had to go through really bad withdrawals and he said the withdrawals was worse than the pain he was experiencing. He switched over to pot and it worked out for him.

you should really look into some orthotics, alot of the symptoms ur expressing could easily be fixed by the use of them. Or u could have some dysfunction in ur thoracic chain. A physical therapist could really benefit u here, possibly put u through a functional movement screen, and scoring u based off the tests to see where u r weaker/stronger, i highly recommend checking one out. The lower back pain could be a referral pain from the knees, and like i said the knee pain could be from ur feet. It all works from the bottom up. Also u may have tight IT bands, which foam rolling them could help loosen them up, and start stretching ur calves out, then hamstring stretches, then do some piriformis stretches, these also help with LOWER back pain.

yoga, physical therapy, lots of bodyweight squats/lunges, low impact cardio like biking and elliptical trainers..

you need exercises like that to strengthen your ligaments/tendons and small core muscles that support your spine.

try it first without medications or drugs.
