Can you camp out there? I know that there's the Bonneville Salt Flats State Park and whatnot, but from what I remember, there were tire marks leaving the highway and heading off into the flats randomly. If I drive out far enough, will I be able to camp somewhere? It says overnight camping is prohibited but I'm just wondering how strict it is.
Id suggest going elsewhere besides the actual salt flats. Go out into the desert, before the salt flats. BLM land. Do whatever the fuck you want out there
Can you elaborate a little more? Just looking for a rad spot to setup camp for the night in Utah while we're on our way to SLC from Tahoe. What's BLM land?
BLM is bureau of land management, all you need to know is forest service land unless they say you can, you can't. BLM unless they say you can't you can.
Tahoe to SLC is a day drive easy. Like 8 hours. Why do you need to camp?
If you do, just get off some random exit between Tahoe and SLC and camp. No one cares, there is nothing out there, except a few small towns like Elko and Wendover. I would stay clear of both towns.
We're going from Tahoe to Jackson and just exploring options for a halfway point. We might just high tail it to Jackson in one shot though, it sounds like theres not much to do in that stretch unless someone has any recommendations..
You spend a lot of fucking money to have someone come and get you out. You shouldn't just randomly drive off the highway onto the flats because there's a legitimate road that brings you out to them. Be fucking smart about it.
you can camp in the mtns just north and south of elko and wendover. I was looking onto camping by pilot peak last week when I did the drive but I got there too late at night and just got a motel since I hate searching for camp sites by myself in areas I've never been.
