This summer I am going on a long two week trip down to South America. I want to take some really solid photos as well as video but I don't want to take my Nikon DSLR down south. Any suggestions for a camera that would be good for this? I am looking for something that is maybe waterproof and has a very long battery life but NOT a GoPro.
that's what i was going to recommend. there's really not much out there if you're looking for waterproof and durable, you're almost guaranteed to be stuck with a little point and shoot. (could be all you need though.)
Why dont you want a go pro? If you get a hero 3 black edition with a LCD and an extra battery, you have a nice little setup. If used properly, great things can come from that camera.
the olympus tg-2 is said to have the best image-quality in the rugged point and shoot segment, but personally i would rather get something like a Sony rx100 and buy a waterproof housing for it. You will get superior iq, better handling, full manual controls++
