Idk, if you mean the era where everything was a bit sketchy and 6 feet off the ground then yeah. Still plenty of crazy stuff going down that's well built and unique.
Honestly I'm down with the decrease in super tall sketchy features. Rails are getting lower and more technical. Progression in the parks is on point both in riding and building.

Yeah the emphasis has been moved from scaring the shit out of everyone to just being chill but technical. MSLM has a crazy ass big Wall right now which is pretty wild.
kung_powpowalmost forgot this one, so sketchy for skiers. I remember seeing it at Okemo when it first opened and then I saw it again at Stowe a couple weeks ago. Park crew guy said Okemo sold it to them and now they have it "on display" cause people kept getting hurt on it
Yup 2 seasons ago they had it at the bottom of the triple (main park lift) and it was flat so it was impossible to hit

the first night it was in (they put it in at 7pm while they were open), park crew didn't bother to build a lip so me and a bunch of skiers decided to just ollie from the side and try to grease it from there. I somehow survived but there were a solid few skiers that didn't get their tips over the top.
Wow I just went through this entire thread and I was so happy to see so many Loon setups and Nashoba setups! They absolutely kill it every year.
14/15 update of the gnarliest stuff I've seen set up:
Carinthia's Hay escalator to big red barn wall ride, I don't think Ive seen so many people eat it on a feature
Nashoba's 50 foot booter they have up right now on a 200ft vertical hill

That's what I thought too when we first installed it but it never happened. I think it's because the ridges are really deep so getting a board down there would be impossible. Also it's a lot easier then it looks . You just need to remember not to edge and it glides down.

ive always thought that the most obvious answer when we complain about comp skiing getting stale is to mix up the course itself more. with hips and all kinds of other variations there would be way more room for creativity and balls. if anything it's all gotten more and more dialed, which is cool in its own way (and probably encouraged by olympics/fis/blah blah blah) but they used to have some weirder features. that step up in the middle of the x slope course the year candide won slope comes to mind. also, way back when skiboarding was in X they had some really goofy shit which was cool

Classic Highland Hills putting no fucking lip in or creative shit in this year. They need to do a plaza style feature this coming season. Saves space and makes more creativity. more rails in less space = Profit???

Nah I'm a fan. I forget his name but the guy that builds there does some good stuff. I believe he did all of the regional never summer features as well as fabricating a lot of the city park including the monster can himself.
I love street/plaza setups. I remember when they built this, def dig it.

I had nightmares about the ledge wall falling apart but she is still holding strong. Only issue is water dripping onto the takeoff below. Never had to deal with that shit before. Have to chop out the ice every couple days. .
Was also a bit bummed we didnt get to put sheep in the gap. It was designed to be a sheep pen but we got shut down at the end.

Look at the bright side. The landing is nice and smooth because most people avoided it.
The sad thing is that if you had a stop watch with 2 minutes and just hammered some snow real quick you could make something resembling a decent lip. Not sure if that's a "don't know" or a "don't care" but at least things like that are becoming more a thing of the past.
