Summer Jobs....away from home

I've just been thinking since I can't really find a decent summer job in my home town, whats stoping me from packing up my truck and going to find one somewhere else?


Or what about out of the country? Now would be the time to do it, I've been out of school for 2 years start college next fall and have no obligations.


Anyone done something similar or have a suggestion for a place to go?

Next summer I'm hoping to apply to Parks Canada and get posted somewhere in Canada at a National or Provincial Park and be and groundskeeper or whatever else that doesn't need schooling.

Should be cool, at some point I want to work in North West Territories because I mean:

It would be super isolated too.


Anyway I'm sure where you live there is something like that, like National or State Parks or if you're Canadian same goes for you as I described before.

Be a greenhand on a salmon fishing boat in Alaska. Or you could gut and clean them and stay on shore.

Anyone know how difficult it would be to go work in say, Austrailia or something for the summer? I could tent live but I do know 1 person down there

My roommate does that in the Yukon every summer. Lot's of early morning monitoring of birds and stuff like that. The advantage to the parks up north is you're provided with somewhere to live so you save a lot more money. That said she interviewed this summer for a student position helping monitor grizzlies in Banff which sounds amazing.
The hiring is done through the FSWEP program though, so even if the positions don't necessarily require schooling, you need to be enrolled in school to apply.

I've had friends work at fly-in only fishing lodges which sounds like an amazing experience.

not exactly what you'd consider a 'summer job'.

could probably find something if you have some sort of heavy machinery/welding experience or a cdl. good money, but be ready to spend all summer working with a bunch of dirty, sketchy dudes with not a girl in sight, though. sounds like about the worst thing to do with your summer haha. it isn't that far from beartooth summer sessions though.

You can get a type of visa called a 'working holiday' that will allow you to go work for a limited time in a bunch of different countries, super fun and relatively easy, I really recommend it.

Personally I've worked in NZ, Japan, Greece, Turkey, Chile, Italy, Switzerland and CO (I'm from the UK so it's easier for me to work in Europe)

I applied for two seasonal jobs (June to October) in the Yukon for this summer. My lady is heading up to the art school in Dawson, so I think us being together somewhere new for awhile will be nice

All you could ever want in a ton of awesome places.

I work in Grand Teton Park all summer long, it's fucking awesome. Pays well, cheap housing, food is provided for every meal, best of all, tons of like minded people. 2 days off per week, good way to make money and still get a vacation out of the summer.

How old are you? I think most of these places will only hire somebody 18 or older.

Lots of these places have odd summer schedules. The place I work goes May 9th until the end of September. But we have a few people that leave early to go back to school in August...
