Yesterday, walking home from my highschool, was just like any other day in my small Canadian town, blue skis and a slight breeze, but this was soon interrupted by an explosion of sirens. I was greeted by 2 police cars on the road flying past me towards the general direction of my home. I found that odd since I rarely see any form of authority in our little town. It was then a saw a third drive past, and I started to worry. We sometimes have a fire truck or an ambulance, but never police speeding through Almonte.
As it turns out, there was a gun scare at our local public school, which is right next door to my home. The gunman is in custody from what I've been told by locals. Whether he had malicious intentions, or he was just taking an odd way (basically pointless) route back home from a hunting trip, is unknown.
This story makes me kind of nervous because my town has always been a peaceful one, and another school shooting would be horrendous. Canada has only ever had 2 school shootings (compared to 31 in the US, and 13 in the world combined), it would be terrifying for a third to happen, let alone next door.
Ns, have any of you been in a shooting? Have you been in a place that only hours later was to be shot up? How did it make you feel. Even the Idea makes me feel uneasy.
