Sound of landing and sliding rails.

I really think that the sound of someone landing or sliding a rail in an edit contributes to making it really good! Is there any specific way to get those sort of sounds or do you just record with an external mic that will pick the sounds up?

Also, on another note, is a rode videomic a solid microphone? Sorry if that part was a repost.

Depends what quality you're looking for. I suggest you get a solid mic and just take about 20/ 30 different rail and landing sounds and all you've go to do is mixing. Pretty straight forward although can be a little boring. But at least you nice and net sounds for sure.

Let me tell you than in movies, any kind, about 80% of the sounds are isolated sounds not recorded on set.

you should just invest in some really high end sound production equipment and make your own sounds, the thought of actually recording someone sliding a rail with a mic and deadcat is pretty outrageous.

Rails can be recorded easily and then you can edit them a little bit in post, but for the landings, if you record the actual landing, I doubt you will get the sound you want with a mic (distance to landing, mic range intensity, omni/uni/bidirectional). Sound engineer is quite a job...
