I checked build a jib and didn't find anything and need help. I have a bunch of long skinny metal pipes that were used for a tenis court that my dad's friend had. He tore it down to put a storage barn or something. Anyway I don't have access to a welder, and need to know how to make a rail out of them. They are the width of an average down rail at keystone. How do I mount them because I can't weld and they are metal? +K for any help
welding is your best bet but if you can't... I've seen it done with PVC and I did it once with a metal pole but it did not hold well (but i did a poor job). You can just drill like 4 holes evenly spaced down the rail. Top and bottom make the hole on the top larger so you can fit a socket wrench or some tool it it. Make the hole on the bottom of the pole that you are going to attach to wood a little larger than the size bolt you will use. Make sure the bolt is snug though and doesn't wiggle around. Then bolt it down. You can also put that super duper glue that comes in the really big containers. Maybe it cawk? but that might give it some extra strength it should work though.
I'm 99% sure it isn't aluminum. It isn't super smooth, but I bet after sliding it a few times it would be smoother. Is aluminum to soft for a rail? like would use just catch an edge?
do everything you would normally do to make a rail with pvc,but use liquid nails to hold the metal pipes to the wood. Oh, and rough up the part of the pipe with a file that will be in contact with the liquid nails.
