The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reported today that emergency crews continued to search the Chippewa River near Eau Claire after a person was reported in the river shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday.
After receiving the report of a man falling from the pedestrian bridge at UW-Eau Claire, the Eau Claire Fire Department launched a boat and searched the river for about two hours Friday night from Fifth Avenue to the Short Street bridge. The search continued unsuccessfully Saturday for six hours.
The missing student was identified by the UW-Eau Claire dean of students office as David P. Rodgers, 20, of Northfield. Rodgers is a 2010 NHS graduate.
The current is particularly strong with the river just a few feet below flood stage after recent storms and melting snow, officials said.
UW-Eau Claire police are investigating the incident."
