Am i the only one who misses the old Tanner Hall? such as his days where he shot with Poor Boys. Definitely love T-Hall, but has he gone the wrong direction in skiing? Not hating, but not so sure about this new style he has with no poles and trying to ride like Phil and Dollo. Am i out of line? or are other people thinking the same thing?
hes trying too hard. he had a good style (still does when he rides pow), but in the park he reminds me of any other of the 3000 15 y-o kids tryin to copy b-dog. respect to the man tho, that he's still even riding is fuckin inspiring
Today's the day I finally lost it,
I can't go on like this without you here.
No matter what I do,
what I tell them,
What I take,
I still think of you.
I still miss you,
I still want you,
I still need you.
Please come back to me,
I'll do anything.
I'll give you everything you want.
You're my heart and soul,
you were the only reason I wanted to live,
and now that you're gone I don't know what to do.
I understand if you don't love me anymore,
because I hurt you pretty bad,
but trust me,
it hurt me too.
But please, I'm begging you,
don't leave us the way we ended,
please just come back to me,
friend or more I don't care,
all I know is that I need old T-Hall
Not tryin to be a dick, but show me. I've only seen him do standard spins off and on rails, spins with mute grabs or corks with blunt grabs and what not.
I'm sorry, but that movie, in my opinion, was horrible. I felt as if I were on acid the whole time. The only good segment was Thalls powder segment, which he slayed by the way.
I gotta admit, I was super duper psyched on the stuff he was doing in 'This Friday'. There was something about the way he was doing super legit taps and playing around in the BC that just really worked for me. I loved the park-influenced big mountain riding. Very cool stuff.
Not necessarily. Take the new slim fit phase. I see older guys doing it all the time, not just younger guys like me. The older guys respect it, just don't choose to evolve into it. Also many of the "young generation" is very much agains future spins, which is where the sport is progressing toward.
I'm more so referring to the progression of air. Back in the day, progression was the guy that sacked up and threw something big... no coach, water, or air matress, just gutz...
Happy Dayz is still my favourite movie made but every kid can do any trick in the film these days, so it's about how people develop and change with the times and go down the road that they want to.
i say keep it riding and rocking, what ever he wants to do is what he wants to do, they way he is able to adapt and change to and do something the way he wants to do it is admirable, not everyone can do that.
Respect to the man, skiing is what the individual makes of it, if you like the old tanner style then watch videos of the old tanner style, let the man do what he likes
Tanner was in tall ts way before Tom wallisch dropped his super unknown edit. You can make the argument that he wasn't buttering and pressing 10 yrs ago, but that's basically being upset that he isnt a time traveling ghost sent back from the future to enlighten us. Complaining that he is adapting with the evolution of skiing is pretty selfish. You ski how you want to, and so does tanner. The main difference being is he does it better.
Nah His style is prime now. All the butters and presses are way better to watch than what he was throwing back in the day. I mean he was definatly one of the best and still is, but his style is what skiing is now, its all trends and this one is a good one
This thread sucks and so does everybody involved in it. Just shut up and go shred. Fuck newschoolers. You guys are ruining skiing with your judgmental bullshit . Keep shredding T and do your thang. It isn't worth your time to reply to such a stupid thread.
What Mr. Bishop said. Those THall shots in This Friday were my favorite shots of 2013. Still has the best backcountry style out there. He looks more at ease in the backcountry compared to the park, which is crazy.
Yall are stuck in the past. Get over yourselves. Tanner doesnt ski for yall. he skis for himself. Before you rip on the nopole stylins...why dont ya try it yourself....its fun as hell.....haters
hes just gettin older, has suffered some serious injuries and has realized that skiing how ever the fuck he wants to is a lot more fun than trying to best possible park skier he can be. he slays bc, still slays pipe and can kill it in the park with a lot of style all while pushing 30. let see you pull that off
I really love those black t-hall skis. Would buy a pair if available today.
I agree that he has lost his game. He doesnt seem to be that happy and stoked anymore and I think its hard for a person who has been at the top of the game and lost it just living on who he was before.
After chads gap crash he went towards BC and halfpipe inventing new styles to skiing. Now he just skis around learning the tricks that the other on top of the game are inventing. I find it weird that he doesnt ski the shit out of BC as he did before his latest injury cause it seemed that i loved that part and are still capable to do some sick shit regarding all trampoline edits.
Its kind of sad but its a thing that every skier/athlete have to face in the end even though i think that he still has the talent to bo on top of BC. Time will tell.
T-Hall is a badass regardless of his style change. He's doing what he loves... after all his injuries many people would have given up, but he bounced back and still is amazing.
His style really hasn't changed that much, he's obviously taking inspiration from henrik and b dog, but they took inspiration from him...its all a circle of life
I very much so agree with this thread to an extent,
as of the past year I started really watching a lot of tanners old skiing and I fucking love his style from 03 and 04 so god damn much. His cork 3s, and cork 5 blunt were/are easily two of my favorite tricks in history period. The competition side of skiing was also so cool back in 03/04. Tanner laid down the sickest most stylish sw9 safety and Mic D did the dopest switch 10 blunt, Pep and Andy doing x games on hell bents. Competition skiing was so fucking sick back then. All the tricks had so much more style than any competitor robots do today, (except for a few) there was no perfectly hucked dub 10 mute, no dancing all over rails, no screaming coaches, No FIS bullshit.
not to mention I loved the style of clothing back then much more. Oakley used to make the dopest shit, I just loved the wide/not long/baggy jacket with baggy pants steeze so much more than the super tall shit today. And there color ways were way tighter too, that all brown suit is still the sickest suit. Oh and you can't forget the long the poles. I remember watching pop yer bottles when I was like 11 just being blown away by the whole Hall/Pep/CR/Rainville parts of the movie, I still watch Tanners part to this day and Im still blown away by hist style. I dunno I spend too much time reminiscing on the skiing scene back then and how awesome it was. Its probably just the Nostalgia factor.
It's kind of a trip to think how Phil and henrik's skiing style is based off of what Tanner Hall/mic D used to ski like. And when Tanner hall came back to the sport after two seasons of recovery? He is now heavily influenced by them in his style which is cool and I'm stoked he's out skiing again and loving life, i just wish he would ski the way he used to in 04/05ish and do another cork 5 blunt.
But as life goes on people get older and Tanner isn't the focus of the sport anymore as much as I hate to say it, which is why I love people like Pwhite/Henrik/Phil/Brady/hornbeck(just to name a few) As corney as this sounds I feel like they are carrying on the older generation of skiing and keeping it alive with the way they ski and that is why they are they are fucking awesome
