I had huge hopes going into the movie seeing how Jackie Robinson is one of my childhood heroes. I thought the movie was well made although really Hollywoody. Never once did he strike out in the movie and although he was a damn fine player (rookie of the year) people still strike out and it just kind of irked me a bit to not show him striking out ever since that's one of the most stressful parts of the game.
They really hit the head with the racism part in the movie. Lots of tension during parts of the movie with all of the niggers flying around. I'm glad they chose to use the Phillies manager to really lay it into Jackie at the plate in the movie. Nobody will ever know or experience what blacks went through back then but moments like this in a movie give the slightest "glimpse" into what it was like back then.
Overall a good movie and I would give it a solid 7.5/10. Not a fan of the baseball mechanics but definitely a fan of the portrayal of racism throughout.
